Myself and Art(gr82bart) have been discussing a "New york at night" shoot. Looks like it will take place at the end of October. - Jim

I might be interested. What areas are you looking to shoot?

I've done some downtown and by the East River bridges and some around Madison Square Park of the various buildings they light at night (the old Met Life, ESB, etc).

At this point, all areas are a possibility. Just trying to get some interest going, then take it from there. - jim

Obviously I'm in. I've heard the meat packing district at night is cool - that's when they unload all the carcasses and stuff - should be neat to photograph. From there up and down the west side should be full of interesting places.

Unfortunately most of the meat-packing has moved out as night-clubs, restaurants, etc have moved in.

I suppose you could try Hunt's Point in the Bronx.

Also, the fish market moved up there from Fulton St. : http://www.huntspoint.com/Fulton_Fish_Market.htm

Unfortunately, the organized crime, hookers, etc. moved with them. Not that it was a great neighborhood to begin with.

So it's a meat market...then?:)

I'm around much of the time and would be into this if our calendars sync up...
Am I missing a date somewhere ?

I'm sure you know that there are some amazing views of NYC along the Long Island City and NJ waterfronts. I've shot most of my gallery posted here within a few hundred yards of our place here in Jersey. I'm a short ferry ride from west 39th St piers and I'd be happy to meet a bunch of folks on this side of the ferry trip and chauffer folks around one day in the future when my currently deer-shape-embossed wagon is back on the road.

BTW-does anyone know what are the best elevated subway stations in LIC from which to score shots of midtown?

Cheers

Everyone is fine, thanks for asking. Even the deer got up and ran off. And the guys at Fort Lee Auto Body are making out GREAT.

Hello All,
I would love to jion along on the night shoot. The end of Oct works great. Jersey Vic, the elevated line of the 7 train and I think the R train as they go into Queens is what you are looking for. I have planning a trip along those lines myself. If you would like some company please let me know.

Dear 1/2 Jersey Vic, glad everyone is fine (deer included ) :)

Let me know what the plan is and when, I might be able to go.

I'd be interested in a weeknight shoot here in NYC.

BTW: I don't think the Hunt's Point market is at all dangerous - you folks have to stop watching those CSI shows! But it's not convenient to the subway and even quite a schlep from the nearest bus stop. After all it's a terminal and designed for truck traffic, not pedestrian tourists!

Jersey Vic - I cannot think of an El station that has much of a view of Midtown Manhattan's skyline from LIC or Astoria. Too many intervening buildings in the way.

You'd be better off going over to the shoreline near the new condos and co-ops by the Pepsi sign. I think there's a new promenade along there, Take the 7 to the 21st and Ely station and walk westward to the waterfront.

Warning though - it's highly civilized and upscale over there and derelict photographers may draw a jaundiced eye!

Another possibility is the pedestrian walkway over the Queensborough Bridge - although with all the reconstruction going on - I'm not up to date if it is open.

An alternative for Lower Manhattan is the Brooklyn Bridge walkway - but on a nice weather evening it will be very crowded.

Sorry about your vehicle - but at least the deer meat is now tenderized! ;)
