My first ever NEW camera! Thanks to a lot of excellent help from Hugo, I had the folks at Chamonix build me a 5X14 camera! 2.8 : 1 ratio.

Sorry, I didn't get pics of the Chamonix itself yet, but will follow up with those. But there are about 9 or 10 pictures made with the new format to get an idea of just how wide 2.8 : 1 is. You might have to re-size your viewing screen :D:D

Pretty tough to get a real feel for these with 90kb jpegs. They have a surprising presence when printed and matted. MORE than I originally expected.

Nice photos as always Jim. The ratio is very appealing as it appears that it makes you do your sky and foreground cropping on site instead of in the darkroom? I also would like to see a photo of the camera.

Nice, Jim. I see your selection of lenses is fairly close to mine for 5x12. My most used lenses are 210 Graphic Kowa, 240 Docter and 450 Nikkor-M. I also use a 355 G-Claron and my trusty 203 mm Kodak f/7.7.

Very surprised to hear the little 203 f7.7 will cover 5X12. I figured 5X7 would be a stretch for that lens. I'll probably massage my lens choices a bit.

That looks like too much fun, Jim. Take a look at Lois Conner's 7x17 stuff for some really excellent panoramic work, if you haven't already. The cheap film is definitely enticing.

I was a bit surprised to realize that there isn't really any other format with that ratio in LF; 617 is of course fairly successful in MF. Visually it is obviously quite special. Very good decision.

Truly, it doesn't. I use it stopped down all the way to f/45 (on 8x10 & 5x12) and it has two soft corners and two slightly cut off corners. However, it has a look that I like. :D

I have heard 2nd hand from the tiny green people, that Mr Galli has the planet's largest supply of film for the camera....in an underground bunker in the Rachel Nevada area, which is easily accessed via underground highway from the outskirts of Tonopah Nevada and accessed only by citizens with special G ratings and security level 4 and higher government personnel......:D

That is a beautiful camera. And those verticals are nuts!

Thought of your camera the other day.

I was in the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library, looking through photo archives for swing-lens panos of local towns from 100 years ago, that I could re-photograph with modern gear.

The archivist brought me a tray of stuff, from two local photogs. from 100 years ago: Langlois and Niebergall.

Niebergall shot a lot of panos, and was very good. But not swing-lens.... the straight lines were straight, and the negatives were about 5x11, and bore witness marks of being in a LF filmholder! They actually looked very much like I imagine your negatives look.

I wrote up a little article about the experience, and may post it in this forum under another thread. It made for an interesting morning....
