Hi,

I have the opportunity to do some shooting for hire in the East Bay (Berkeley/Oakland) and was wondering about the presence of pro color labs in the Bay Area. I will most likely be shooting medium format transparencies and would need a 24-48 hour turn around, with the added possibility of some hi rez scans. Any of our Bay Brethren have some suggestions?

Commercial Process is in Berkeley though it's been a looooong time since I've used them.

I do have an answer for you...because I work at the lab that fits your needs. The lab is Newlab, in San Francisco. Full E-6 and C-41, tons of scanning options. We are a pro lab and one of the only ones left in the Bay Area for E-6. Check out our website: www.newlab.com for more info and feel free to contact me directly. In Berkeley, Color Process closed several years ago. In San Francisco there is New Lab who has about 4 hour turn around. Unfortunately, Robyn Color has regretably just closed this past month after something like 27 years. Sad.

New Lab is just across the Oakland - Bay Bridge, take the 5th st exit. If you have enough time, The Looking Glass on Telegraph in Berkeley takes larger format film, I don't know where they have it processed and you need to ask them about turn around.

At New Lab, mention that you are APUG, they will provide a discount.

Looking Glass sends their film to us at Newlab....great place though!

Thanks Matt & Wilbur! Yes, Newlab fits my needs perfectly. I'm just waiting to see how big a file the advertising graphics company needs (these pics are going to be on bus shelter ads) but I figured if everything lab-wise could be done in the area it would make for a lot less driving/shipping between L.A. and the Bay.
