Greetings Folks,
I’d like to announce a couple items regarding Elevator. The first is that we’ve been growing by leaps and bounds – I don’t have the time to list all the new equipment and services we’ve added, but I will within the next month or so. For now I’ll announce a new website dedicated to our workshops, http://www.elevatorworkshops.com, and the workshops we’ll be having this month.
We will be using this site as a focal point for all of our workshops and most of our photo related events. Currently we have three events scheduled for November:
Jesper Sorensen’s Himalayan Nomadic Culture.
Jesper has spent 20 years in the Himalayas and has taken pictures of things that few westerners have ever seen. The stuff is amazing and the way he gets the images is worth no small amount of respect. The man uses an 8x10 on the roof of the world while traveling and living just like the nomads. We are going to have a very limited, 3 - day show featuring his work.
On the first day of the show, 21 November, we’re having an open house and Jesper is going to give a short lecture. This is the day to come. You’ll get to see how absolutely mad this place has gotten, hear a talk form a guy who is ‘really doing it’ and we might have something for you to eat and drink as well.
Les McLean on the Series Vision
Les is here at Elevator once again and this time he is teaching his students how to develop their ideas into a polished portfolio. This is a soup to nuts 2-day workshop that covers everything from the initial idea through to the final edits. This is the course to take if you really want to pull your work together into one or more cohesive finished portfolios.
Sandy King and Alternative Printing
Sandy will be giving a 2 day work shop on how to do metal salt prints (kallitype, vandyke brown, & other metal salt processes such as palladium and platinum, Ziatype and Ware/Malde.). The focus of this course is the print: what is needed in the way of equipment, chemistry, technique, etc… In camera negative exposure and development as well as d-negs will be discussed as well, but this is not the main focus of the workshop.
For more information check the website. We have a paypal thing that takes paypal or credit cards or you can call us toll free if you want to sign-up or have questions. Sorry if we got to you too late, but it took a bit longer for us to pull all of this together and we’ve been a wee bit busy.
Feel free to give us feedback on the website. Its early days yet and the site might be a little rough around the edges. I’m told it is best viewed using Firefox, Safari 2.0 or Explorer 7. Older versions of Explorer might not work as well, but I’m sure you’ll let us know.
