I hate to see these things go to the dump. I hate to see "Pickup only". Why wouldn't a person want to pay for a crate and shipping on a item of this nature? I know what you mean. I think most sellers who say this just don't want to mess with it, so if you asked them if it would be ok if you arranged your own shipping (ie someone to go there, box it up, and ship it to you) they'd agree. If they understood this was an option, they might even find a willing shipper to put you in touch with.
At the current bid you could probably afford to do that!
I actually sold a nice Danish Modern dining table & 6 chairs that way recently (pick up only) ... I did get a query at the very last minute asking if I'd go for having a shipper crate up the chairs and send 'em to Connecticut. I agreed and until that moment it really hadn't occurred to me that it was an option ... but I sure as heck didn't want to crate that stuff up myself. It was too late for either of us to line things up by that point anyway though.
Nathan Gay Larson 11-06-2007, 10:30 PM Thanks so much I only live 50 miles from this location and I put in a bid. Usually I have no chance on these pick up items. Gay Larson 11-06-2007, 10:47 PM Oops, I can't believe someone is bidding against me. Darn Nathan Smith 11-07-2007, 10:09 AM Oops, I can't believe someone is bidding against me. Darn

Sorry you did not get the enlarger. Some of those auctions can sit dormant for days then 10 or 20 bids in the last 60 seconds. They can be interesting to watch.
--John PHOTOTONE 11-21-2007, 02:40 PM I got this enlarger. I am an Apug-hugger. Drove about 150 miles each way to get it. Chance of a lifetime. As previously mentioned, usually these "pick-up only" items are located hundreds, if not thousands of miles away from those of us who live in middle-USA. The enlarger was actually located in Dewey, Oklahoma, which is slightly north of Bartlesville. It originally was owned by Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville. The person I got it from purchased it at some sort of surplus equipment auction about a year ago. Nathan Smith 11-21-2007, 10:59 PM Congratulations, and thanks for letting us know how it ended .... congratulations to the enlarger as well for ending up with someone who'll appreciate it.

DannL 11-22-2007, 12:51 AM As long as it's stays within driving distance, that's all I wanted. :D PHOTOTONE 11-22-2007, 11:22 AM Well, it resides now "almost" on the Oklahoma state line..as Van Buren, Arkansas is about 3 miles from the eastern border of Oklahoma. Gay Larson 11-22-2007, 11:32 PM Well I am not happy but glad it got a good home. |
