I just wanted to say that I find the pictures posted recently by teasel123 (Alan) to be some of the best and most inspiring that I have seen for a long time.

Technically, they show what can be done with simple, manual focus 35mm cameras (Vivitar 3800n and Pentax MX) and put to shame some of us who are always lusting after more equipment.

Aesthetically they show a good understanding of composition and an eye to find a picture where a lot of us would just walk past without seeing it.

Have a look here: http://www.apug.org/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=22679

My favourite (so far): http://www.apug.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=29306&cat=500&ppuser=22679

Sorry but I had to mention it!

I agree. Bright subjects against a darker background are pleasing, in general, and especially for floral and macro subjects. The compositions show a good understanding of lighting, just to mention the most apparent overall aspect.

I've been inspired by his work too.
I want to see the actual slides now though ;)

I agree too, they are simple, balanced, and consistent (that's hard to accomplish). And they all show a particular eye. I hope he print them on Ilfochrome for an exhibit!

Oh and... great bokeh! Now everyone will want a Vivitar macro lens.

He definitely knows his head from his aperture.

Yes, refreshing images.
Pity he doesn't accept PM's.
