View Full Version : Current and upcoming exhibitions Sanjay Sen 11-14-2007, 01:12 PM I am proposing that we have a thread (possibly a sticky?) with posts for all current and upcoming photographic exhibitions that folks are aware of, and that others may be interested in. I recently visited two wonderful exhibitions, which I probably wouldn't have been aware of, but for Whiteymorange and Jovo's posts (thanks guys!). If we have all such exhibitions listed in one place, it would be easier to know what's going on - not necessarily only in the US, but anywhere in the world. After all, this is a global community. Listed below are some current exhibitions that I have visited, or plan to in the near future:

Alan. DWThomas 11-16-2007, 01:07 PM Note that in Philadelphia, the Art Museum nearly always has some photography on exhibit. On the current list:
Alfred Stieglitz and the Philadelphia Museum of Art
Now Through January 31, 2008
This inaugural exhibition in the Levy Gallery, in its new location in the Ruth and Raymond G. Perelman Building, pays tribute to the Museum's integral and treasured holding of photographs by Alfred Stieglitz. The exhibition features a selection of approximately 40 masterpieces that demonstrate the range of both Stieglitz's work and the collection.
Particulars of Place: Photo Portfolios from the Collection
Now Through December 9, 2007
This exhibition from the Museum's collections showcases a variety of artists who have created portfolios—boxes containing series of prints—that capture a sense of place.
DaveT (in the midst of researching local museum exhibits for an art club newsletter) Sanjay Sen 11-16-2007, 07:35 PM Wow! Gotta make a trip to Phili sometime soon. Thanks, Dave! Hi Tim,
Are there any plans of an exhibition across the pond? I love the photos in your books, but viewing the prints in person would be something else all together!
Best wishes,
Sanjay tim rudman 01-12-2008, 01:29 PM Hi Stoo
Details are still in the pot. The Lightbox Galleries is a brand new £7m gallery/museum focussing on displaying the arts in a broad sense, rather than being a 'selling fine art' gallery.
For example they currently have Wallace & Gromit on the ground floor and have a first time shown private sculpture collection about to open in the gallery.
I have the 1st floor gallery to fill as I wish for 3 months and they are happy to handle sales and are being very flexible. So the answer is yes, but details are to be finalised.
I really like their inclusive approach of involving the community at different levels rather than being exclusive.

I am going to be there next week-(end)
niels-erik Sanjay Sen 01-13-2008, 08:34 PM Well, I barely made it to the "Ansel Adams, Moonrise: Print the Legend" exhibit at the Princeton University Art Museum today: it was the last day. It was wonderful, to say the least, seeing how his printing of the same negative evolved over the years, beginning in the 1940s through the 1980s. There was also a large straight print, which of course helped with the comparisons.
I noticed that the earlier versions of the prints had the foreground with the church and the cemetery more subdued than in the later versions; there were also differences in the how the sky and the clouds were rendered, one print had a gray sky as opposed to the almost black sky I've normally seen that photograph printed with. A couple of the prints also did not have the high clouds rendered, while the others did. All in all, a wonderful experience looking at the master's prints.
Best wishes,
Sanjay Stoo Batchelor 01-14-2008, 12:28 PM Hi
I have just hung my first exhibition: It is being held at,
The Gordon Craig Theatre Foyer Gallery
Stevenage Leisure centre,
Lytton Way,
Stevenage,
Herts,
SG1 1LZ
It is located about 100 yards from the main line railway station.
They have two galleries, this one and one they call the Boxfield Gallery. I have an exhibition penciled in for August in the Boxfield, a far better gallery as it is a purpose built art gallery. The Foyer gallery sits in the Theatre area, so lots of people pass through, which is good, Kerrrrrching! (I hope)
