I just got my first issue of Mike Johnston's photo newsletter, _The 37th Frame_.

It's an independent, self-published newsletter with editorials and some equipment reviews, with no advertising or images, available by subscription only. Johnston used to edit _Photo Techniques_, and his writing is witty and intellegent. He writes most of it, but there are a few items by others, such as a review of the Nikon FM3a by Steven Gandy of www.cameraquest.com this issue. With no advertisers to worry about, he can publish a segment called "Cheap Crap" for negative equipment reviews.

Most of it is oriented toward traditional photography and would appeal to many APUG types, but he's not dogmatically anti-digital and has positive words to say about the Canon D60 in the current issue.

Looking at other things Johnston has written, he seems mostly oriented toward hand-held documentary photography with small and medium format cameras, and above all rangefinders, but there's something there for everyone. Well worth a read.
