Thankyou once again for the leads kind sirs. Will have a look at the names mentioned. I'm looking at Andrew Kendalls stuff which is cracking. It's all d*****l but nevermind. Here's a recent print I totally overlooked cause I never thought it'd print til scanning it, the merit in bothering to print contact sheets eh.

Herman Leonard was a master of 50s/60s jazz photography. The Eye of Jazz is a good book if you can find a copy.

p.s. Valerie Wilmer also wrote about and photographed jazz and blues in the 60s/70s. I have one of her books The Face of Black Music

Also Colin Beard and Graeme Webber did some pioneering work in the 60/70s for Australia's fledgling RockMag publications. Graeme's book Australian Rock Folio is like a picture diary of my teenage years following bands around. Some great early AC/DC shots in there. I don't think these two guys have much of a presence on the web.

Modesty might prevent Tony, but it won't prevent me. Look at his work here. It's first rate....and what's more, he will probably answer any questions you might have. Having an in house master is a very good thing!

See what you've done now!.... got me looking through my bookshelves and going on a bit of a nostalgia trip! One more Australian photographer who has done some good gig photography over the years is Bob King.
You can see some of his stuff on this site which has thousands of music photos. You need to register first to enlarge and the images are protected by some imposing watermarks but it is designed as a commercial image bank and has a mix of good and bad. Record shots, promos etc but worth a click through for some ideas or inspiration....

Another vote for Jim Marshall. He's shot just about everybody! He also has a couple of books out. Based in San Francisco, he's got lots of early 60's musicians. Baron Wolman was one of the first photographers for Rolling Stone, you can see lots of his work on his website. I have a print of Keith Moon by Eric Hayes, he got started out west and later moved to England to shoot the music scene. Mick Rock is another - he started in England, now he lives in New York. Those are just off the top of my head. Do you have a particular period or artist in mind?
