so a family member has rented an extremely nice house near halibut point in july and i need some advice on shooting locations.i know there is a private rock beach,it is about an hour from boston and i think a quarry real close.i imagine i can find tons of things to shoot but does anyone have some must see things for me to check out,i will be there a week and now i am very excited.any locals here on apug.will there happen to be any type of gathering or show during the last week in july.oh my i need to get some more film and supplies.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Sounds fun.. the light there will be gorgeous, you can't go wrong just about anywhere!! Not sure when in July... I will be away for a week late in the month, but always up for going to the beach in that area at summer!!

Rockport,MA? ....The Motif, of course. Rise early before the crowds descend.
Over in Glouster - The light house off Eastman Point, the old Paint manufacturing plant at the end of Rocky Neck, and of course the harbor
North of Rockport there is a smaller light, accessed if you inquire...
Hire a boat and go to the offshore island for a pair of lights.
Plenty of birds along the coast if you bring a long lens.

Pretty crowded in July....but enjoyable if you get up early.

Check out the park's website (http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/northeast/halb.htm). It is a super place to photograph. The quarry is quite impressive. It is a bit of a walk from the parking lot if you are carrrying heavy equipment, but not that bad.

Rockport and (for that matter) the entire North Shore coast is a really pretty place and has lots of places to photograph.

Advice... sure, I have advise. Be careful where you park onthe pier. There are two sides to the pier parking: residents and non-residents. Last time I was there it was winter - not a visitor in sight (except me) yet the non-resident parking was completely full with cars and trucks sporting "resident" parking permits. They were all in the coffee shop. It was mobbed with what appeared to be fishermen and retirees. The resident parking area was completely empty... so I parked there. It only took 3 minutes to snap a couple of shots of Motif. There was a very nice policewoman admiring the view also. We exchanged pleasantries and I was feeling real good about life. On my windshield, however, that policewoman left me a parking ticket. Hmmmm.

It will be crowded. Go to the book store and get the Michelin Green guide for New England. It rates the views. Eat the lobster outdoors. With beer, and don't forget the corn on the cob.

I always enjoyed Owl's Head light. There is a small rocky beach, and it can give you varied shots of the lighthouse.
