If you're in the mood for a laugh, I just committed to buy my first enlarger (I took photography classes in the 1970's, but never had my own darkroom).

It's an Elwood 8x10...no use in screwing around with lightweights, right?

I've seen a manual for a 5x7 and that's intimidating enough.

Which one, Murray? I have a table top "auto-focus" model. I'd love to see the table it's supposed to go on. No doubt it'd fit right in in Valhalla. What type of lightsource does it have?

I have one of those - in my shed. The thing is huge! However, I don't have a room with a tall enough ceiling to use it. I have a lens and a big bulb and as far as I know, it works.

That's not the autofocus model. (Mind you, mine doesn't really autofocus.) You'll definitely want to check out the mirroring in the dome, and there should be a difusing sheet that goes about the negative carrier. It'll be more opaque in the middle. When I actually used mine, I used an Aristo t1212 cold light head with it. That worked great, but they're expensive. Since these don't have any heat reflecting glass, be careful not to cook any negatives. Operation is straight forward.

I think mine has a stand/flat part on the bottom. I think my husband and a neighbor who helped him move it say about ~300 lbs. :o

Mine's more like Diane's. It's about 300 lbs, although the base part separates from the column part. Murray, my guess is yours is about 200 lbs.

Don't worry, you can break it down into a few parts to make it easy to handle. Lamp housing, elevation column and bellows part. You can even remove the big cast piece the lamp housing sits on to further lighten the load.

Good. The cast base is gone...has a three-hole mounting pattern.

I read the 'pin' can be difficult to remove. Hopefully that isn't necessary.

Maybe this was meant to happen. My garage appears to have a 9 or 10 foot finished ceiling. Temperature may have to be regulated :O(
