View Full Version : Hello from Sydney NathanBell 02-29-2008, 12:29 AM Hi everyone!
Stoked I found this comunity, I've been searching for an active 'traditional photography' group for quite a while now.
Ahh... I'm basically a beginner, shooting on a 1973 Pentax K2 SLR, and a couple of plastic toy Lomo's.
I've recently started dabbling in develloping my own B&W film in my tiny cramped bathroom.
I cant seem to get any luck with colour film though, with about 95% of my shots being quite grainy.
Um... I'm mainly interested in artistic photojournalism. I draw alot of inspiration from the www.oculi.com.au collective (my aunt's a founding member)and other Sydney Photojournalists like Trent Parkes, Dean Sewel, Andrew Quilty, Lisa Wiltse, etc etc.
Some of my B&W pictures from a recent trip to adelaide for a mountain biking competition are here:http://www.flickr.com/photos/21349178@N08/sets/72157603303785806/show/ MurrayMinchin 02-29-2008, 12:41 AM There's quite the rowdy herd from Australia on APUG. Welcome aboard from north coast BC, Canada :)
Murray Kevin Caulfield 02-29-2008, 12:44 AM Welcome, Nathan, from Melbourne. I'm also a big fan of Trent Parke's work. MattKing 02-29-2008, 01:45 AM Hi Nathan - welcome from the south west coast of BC, Canada.

Isn't the middle of England extreemly cold at the moment? Rather than warm?:p
Thanks for the welcome everyone... Lots of great info on here! David Grenet 02-29-2008, 04:39 AM Looks like I'm the first from Sydney - welcome! Uhner 02-29-2008, 05:03 AM A warm welcome from Oslo.
Claes Tony Egan 02-29-2008, 05:49 AM Hi Nathan,
Hello from another rowdy crowder. I still think we are probably a bit under-represented for a city of over 4 million but spread the word and look forward to your contributions. Had a look at your site and some striking and creative photos there. Interesting design on those seat-less bikes - no doubt for easy access to the ground for the legs and to protect the family jewels on such terrain? Steve Smith 02-29-2008, 06:31 AM Hello from the Isle of Wight.
Don't worry about colour film, it's just a passing craze. Like radios and telephones. It will never catch on.
Steve. Christopher Walrath 02-29-2008, 05:18 PM Hi, Nathan. You've got a great camera with a lot of lenses available. Welcome to the group. mooseontheloose 02-29-2008, 05:33 PM Welcome from France! I'm sure you'll find that you'll become addicted to this site (I know I sure am!). Lots of friendly and knowledgeable people here (I'm of the former, and maybe not so much the latter;-) ).
Rachelle PhotoJim 02-29-2008, 05:38 PM Welcome from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, where it's much cooler than it is in Sydney (but it is above freezing today at least). papagene 02-29-2008, 10:01 PM Nathan... welcome to APUG from western Massachusetts USA. Right now it's snowing outside, so it's a little cooler than Sydney at the moment. :D
gene Hi from Geelong, Nathan. Yes we are a rowdy bunch, but don't we have fun.

George Glenn Mathison 03-04-2008, 06:54 AM Checking in from Rowdy Brisbane! Although after just watching the second cricket final, we Aussies may be a little less rowdy for a few days ... :(
I went and saw Trent Parke's "Minutes to midnight A/V" show a couple of years back when I was living in Sydney. Awesome stuff and he and his partner Natalie seemed extremely down to earth and quite funny.
Enjoy APUG, it gets in your blood! |
