John Koehrer 03-16-2008, 02:40 PM It's the base of the camera 1.25 X 5.5" depends how careless you are. Pinholemaster 03-16-2008, 03:29 PM I've never lost one. Take plate off, take out film, load film, and return plate to camera. Figital Revolution 03-16-2008, 03:36 PM Changing film is a breeze on the M7...I've never lost the plate either! cotdt 03-16-2008, 04:04 PM but what if you drop it and it falls into the sewer? Lee L 03-16-2008, 04:14 PM but what if you drop it and it falls into the sewer? Always change film in the M7 while standing over a pit toilet. The flow in a sewer will wash the base plate away, whereas you can dig it out of a pit toilet. Lee Tamas 03-16-2008, 04:34 PM I guess it is time to buy a new base plate... before Leica goes out of business donbga 03-16-2008, 04:45 PM but what if you drop it and it falls into the sewer? Well I guess you are SOL as they say. cotdt 03-16-2008, 05:04 PM I guess it is time to buy a new base plate... before Leica goes out of business really? is leica really going out of business? i thought they were going to become a digital P&S camera company. donbga 03-16-2008, 05:12 PM really? is leica really going out of business? i thought they were going to become a digital P&S camera company. Neither of these statements at are all accurate. They are not going out of business nor are they planing to make P&S digital cameras. Tom Duffy 03-16-2008, 09:42 PM The old photojournalist trick is to hold the the baseplate in your mouth while changing film (interior side down, so you don't fill the baseplate with spittle, of course :) ). I actually have a spare baseplate, just in case. It would probably take 6 months to get another one from the factory. Leica could use a swing door design, but then they would be f***ing with tradition :). cotdt 03-16-2008, 09:48 PM The old photojournalist trick is to hold the the baseplate in your mouth while changing film (interior side down, so you don't fill the baseplate with spittle, of course :) ). Or one of those key-chains on a spring loaded wire that connects to your belt. Lots of neat stuff, just check out the Ace (or other) Hardware store near you. I hope this helps you.
