Season 4 is about to begin!
I envy you all of you who will watch the first episode before me!

Yes, yes, its my favorite TV series, (even though I don't own a TV) and I have been waiting a fraking year for this! The trailer looks really, really great!

I live in the US and won't get to watch it due to not having cable or anything. I won't be able to finally see it until it comes out on DVD. So...yeah. Boo. :(

Stephanie, we live in the 21st century, this is the age of the Internet!
There are other ways than having a shiny box and paying rent for it.

I watched the first series but didn't really get into it. I much prefer Babylon 5.

Ah, but there's the rub:
Galactica is like wine: only gets better with age!

Seriously, the first season was just ok.
The second was great.
The third was awesome!
The writers have balls and they take you and the characters for a wild ride!
I was a Babylon 5 fan and it had some dark moments, but somehow I felt the direction didn't take it too far. BSG is dark, gritty and plays with your ethics, feelings and nerves. There is no good and evil here, only very dark shades of gray as everyone's done something to be ashamed of and everyone gets fucked up.

You should watch the second season.

I'll get to see it tonight. Looking forward to it. But I to preferred Babylon 5.

Is Season 4 the final season? I also loved Babylon 5 but this new BSG kicks butt!

BSG is probably the best science fiction series, ever. Also, the cast is leagues better than those of the defunct Babylon 5 series. Season 4 premieres today, and it is AN EVENT where I live. So say we all!

I just started watching BSG because of Netflix, I'm still a season behind, so I will not be reading this thread anymore because I don't want to accidentally read any spoilers. But I love this show! I didn't expect to get into it, my husband was watching it, and I got hooked in. I really like all the characters, and I think the writing is great. Edward James Olmos has said that it's the best material he's ever worked on.

Now, this is a jam packed space ship with human beings occupying every nook and cranny. Is that why it is called Cattle Car Galactica? That comes from an original joke in Mad Magazine years ago.

Babylon 5 had some great characters and some truly dramatic moments, but it was all over the place.
Too many aliens, too many elements, too many characters, too many stories and back stories, etc.
I was a big fan at the time, partly because I had an Amiga computer and was involved in animation and graphics,
but also because it was the first series I really cared about. Star Trek was never my cup of tea even though
I watched quite a few, from TOS, to NG, to the rest.
Unfortunately Babylon 5 was not shown in its completion in Greece and I only read about the later seasons.
I really like BSG because it is a mature, intelligent series, bitter and dark, like strong turkish coffee.

I hope a friend will find a projector for tomorrow... I really can't wait!
So say we all!

I think it describes the situation well!
Add that most of them have a mad cow disease and being driven to the slaughter and there you have it!

It's not available on itunes anymore! Season 3 finale was amazing and I am dying to see season4. I also checked amazon unbox but they will not allow people outside the US to download it. Is there any service that offers it to international crowds similar to itunes and amazon unbox? /cry

Is this the show with Captian Kirk in it? ;)

I don't have TV either...not since about '75 or so. I use get my TV out every Thursday night back then (it was a little B&W Sony portable...maybe an 8" screen) -- and watch a show about some peaceful monk who eventually kicked somebody's butt by the end of it...while saying a few words of wisdom, usually.

No doubt the quality is at least partly due to where it is filmed :)

[I believe it is shot near here]

I was planning to post some links for TV streams but it seems they have changed quite a bit and some servers are down, but if you try this guide:
http://www.ovguide.com/

you should get some good links (read the reviews for the channels first)

Babylon 5 was an outstanding series, only spoilt by the first and last series when the network upset the original story line. Looking forward to the new series of Battlestar on UK TV...

Odd, I think just the opposite of you as far as which season was best.
For me last season was rather pathetic, and I fear the this season will be equally disappointing, or worse.

TV producers trying trying get around the fact that--Lead-Follow-or get the hell out of the way, is the edict that governs life, turn most story lines into flatulence sooner or later.

Well, I liked the scene in tonight's new expisode where Sol Tighe shoots Adama in the face!

Then the members of the crew set out to...... Aww, I don't want to spoil it all, but we learn a new Cylon/Human hybrid. :D Next week, we learn the last 4. All is revealed!

Babylon 5 was fine, but you're all forgetting Farscape - best ever. Though BSG is fraking good. And don't we know all but one cylon now?

Farscape was pretty good, but it was too limited, and it got repetitive. Just saw BG for the first time tonight. 1st episode in season 4. Obviously I should watch some of the earlier stuff.

The great thing about B5 was it had a single theme right through all five series. Things happened in series one, and you thought, 'what the hell was that about?'. then in later series they came clear. Zathros and 'the One' for example. Also unlike Star Trek etc. B5 did not 'reset' at the end of each episode, characters' individual stories continued through the series, Franklin becoming an addict, Londo becoming more and more a tool of the Shadows, G'Kar becoming less warlike and more spiritual etc. B5 may look dated now, but for storyline and character development it is second to none.

Unfortunately Babylon 5 was not shown in its completion in Greece and I only read about the later seasons.

Second place after BSG for me, but only for "this" much.
