I have seen this in the gallery and I am wondering if the aluminum is treated to make it black? Is it some sort of chemical blacking or bluing like with guns and what people do with silver? Or is it something that is coated on?

from what i have read it is trophy aluminum that has a black enamel coating on it.

Like John said, it is black trophy aluminum. Comes coated with a layer of plastic that you peel and pour. Doesn't get much easier for collodion work.
