Hi All,

Still in testing but good enough to roll out as I need some feedback. This system allows subscribers to create public or private social groups. Registered members can join groups just not create them. Also, with a single click the group owner can create their own discussion forum for their group (private or public). Group topics can be photo related or anything else you like, it's your group. Group creation rules are listed on the creation screen. Please post feedback here, it's the 1st version and it can be tweaked over the next several days. The link is now in the main menu bar "Groups"

Thanks!
Sean

You mean that now we have to start talking to each other!

Testing... testing... testing...

Seems I'm the only Scandinavian up this early. Ah well - it's time for another coffee anyway.

I just joined the SkandinAPUG group. Worked fine. :)

Ok, did some more work on them, updated the group page layout and added photo album function, so if you join the group you can view and add photos.

How are the groups annouced ? I have made a Sinar users group, but need to spread the word without spamming the forums.

And I just created a Contax / Yashica group. So now you know. :)

And here's my contribution to a Montreal chapter of the cult of APUG:

Can't add photos to a group. There is an add photo link but when I go to it, it says add link from album. Where is my album? Tried putting a link to an image in my gallery but that doesn't seem to work.

Any clues?

Albums are within your profile, a place where you can dump misc pics. Go to "My APUG" and "Pictures & Albums". You can then create a personal album for the group and place images in it etc. A bit convoluted but that's all the software has to offer at the moment.

In a future revision it would be nice to have a file repository in the goups. In the case of the Sinar group it could be manuals, catalogs or whatever.

It's the 1st version of the system so vbulletin will likely improve on it soon. There are also ways to modify it and I'm looking forward to some plugins for it. I would like to see such things as categories, notifications, pm notifications on invite, etc

Also, you could use the create forum link which will create a Sinar forum attached to the group. You can then make a thread to hold downloads..

Sean, can you clarify what "Public," "Moderated," and "Invite Only" mean in the group setup/edit menu?

I assume public means anyone can join and post.

Does moderated mean both membership and posting require moderator approval, or just posting?

Does invite only mean that membership requires moderator approval, but once invited, one can post without approval?

As far as I can tell:

Public- wide open
Moderated- People can join but group owner must approve them (once approved posts are not moderated they can post freely)
Invite Only- Once invited the link to join becomes visible for the invited member

I can get those descriptions in place today or tomorrow so there is no confusion

Not sure if this is correct place but since it is group related here it is:
I have created a forum in the Contax / Yashica group and added a post to that forum which is to be for contax downloads. Can I make that post a sticky or do I need to ask you to do it?

Thinking about it, there would little point in it being a sticky unless I could go back and add stuff to it in future. As one the moderators of a group forum, am I able to do that or will the edit function disappear after the usual time?

I dont know if it a bug, but why does it only show 10 members and not 12 like there is space for ?

You should have a link at the bottom of that box to show all group members, if not let me know

If you create a forum it is yours, you should have full moderator access to it. Most of the options are in the forum/thread tools drop down menu. If you run into any problems just let me know.

I do have the option to show all, and it works. But it still shows only 10 users, when returning to the normal view.

One for the wishlist for social groups:

a library, where there is no filesize limit. Only a 100 MB or so total limit. At the moment I have 2 files that are between 10 and 20 MB, that I want to make awailable to other members of the Sinar group, but have no where to do it.

I found it. Thanks.

You could host it at a media site such as mediafire.com then link to it. Not sure I can handle that kind of bandwidth etc
