I agree, that is really the best option. df cardwell 06-13-2008, 10:42 AM My late friend Sheldon Brown designed

Get a good grip, and just reef on it
Should do the trick
. David Brown 06-13-2008, 10:47 AM I successfully opened a Mamiya lens years ago. Ended up sending all the pieces in a box to Paul Ebel so he could put it back together. Frank Szabo 06-13-2008, 10:49 AM My late friend Sheldon Brown designed

This guy and some high explosives should do the trick, along with a pipe wrench, of course.. elekm 06-13-2008, 06:25 PM Generally, you must remove the face ring. But it depends on the lens. If it has slots, you can use a spanner wrench. Otherwise, you can use a rubber plug.
However, some lenses aren't easily disassembled and require special tools.
Upon reassembly, you should recollimate the lens. iamzip 06-13-2008, 06:39 PM My late friend Sheldon Brown designed

I need to get me one of those! tony lockerbie 06-13-2008, 08:04 PM DF, we are talking lens repair..... not dentistry!
Tony df cardwell 06-13-2008, 08:53 PM Sheldon's Tork-Grip also functions as an inertial impact alignment tool.
As for cleaning the lens cells, the diaphragm, and collimation, it is next to useless.
I'm pretty sure DAG is much less expensive than a genuine Tork-Grip.
TORK-GRIP Universal Torque Wrenches are not available in any store,
only on the Internet! Order Yours Today!!!

thanks a lot for all the inputs. df cardwell 06-14-2008, 06:25 AM Steve Grimes always said it was never a good sign
when you gave your Leica to a repairman who said,
"Oooh ! I've always wanted to work on one of THESE !"
good luck dx ! lens_hacker 06-26-2008, 04:16 PM I've disassembled a Type I Rigid Summicron, several collapsible Summicrons, Summitars, a Summar, and 9cm Elmars. I would vote to send a more modern lens to DAG, Essex, or Youxin Ye or other experienced person for cleaning.
I would not take apart the newer Leica lenses. |
