Last night, my wife and I watched a rather good movie made by a rather great photographer.

The movie is called Control and was directed by Anton Corbijn (http://www.corbijn.co.uk/). It was filmed entirely in black and white and told the story of Ian Curtis, the legendary singer of the rock band Joy Division.

Without going into much detail right now (in a rush), it was just about 2 hours long and well worth the time.

Definitely a must see for any Joy Division fan. I saw it when it opened in Montréal a few months ago, and I was just balled over.

The best thing for me was to see the re-enactment of the live performance. I'm too young to have ever seen JD play, but to hear their music played by dopplegängers on a big screen was as close as I would ever get. The actors are actually playing the instruments, instead of lip-synching to the original, which I thought was an excellent creative choice.

On the topic of B&W, I read in American Cinematographer, I think, that they did not shot using silver B&W simply because it required a real expertise they did not have. So they desaturated standard movie stock. The theatrical print I saw had a slight greenish tint. It was probably printed on color print stock as well.

I haven't seen it but The GF bought a copy. :)
In our case, it's money well spent since we're both Post-Punk, Cold Wave addicts.
