I was wondering are their any Minolta users here who have purchased one of the fancy new Carl Zeiss Lenses to use on their film bodies?

Can you point us to some infos about those lens. Made a quick search and never saw any new product for Minolta.

Cheers

Carl Zeiss is making lenses for Sony... and Sony is using the Minolta Alpha mount since they bought Minolta a couple years back.

I've been shooting a lot with the 135mm F1.8 Zeiss on the Sony A700, which is a digi body. Since it covers full frame it will also work on the film bodies.

This is one of the nicest/sharpest lenses I've used. I shoot around F3.4 on portraits... gets the face very sharp then drops off with a nice out of focus transition. This lens is certainly worth considering. A bit heavy though.

I expect to try the Zeiss 85mm F1.4 in the next couple days.

I've also used the two Zeiss zooms.... both are great but as I switch to the Sony system from Canon I'm not getting any zoom lenses.... I'm only using primes down the road... mostly because I do magazine work and I want all the quality I can get and have always been disappointed with the zoom quality from Nikon's and Canon's that I've owned.

I'm only posting this picture since you've asked about a lens I happen to have used for a portrait last Thursday and not a lot of people have had a chance to use.

F3.4 1/40 second for the boxer
F4 for the driver.

Rob, would that be a 135mm 1.8 T* Sonnar?

I have a Zeiss Contax SLR 135mm f2.8 T* Sonnar. Excellent Lens!

Hi tom, Yes it's the 135mm 1.8 Sonnar..... I'm really liking it.

I have the 85 F1.4 for this weekend..... should be fun.

Now, if they would just put those lenses in the MD mount too!

Man, I second Chazzy's motion! I got a truck load of SRT series cameras and would love to have some Zeiss MD mounts to use with them.

Good morning;

On this topic, does anyone know if the Minolta Maxxum series of auto focusing film cameras has the same lens mount as the Konica/Minolta/Sony digital SLR cameras?

If so, that would open up some very nice paths to pursue.

For the most part, yes they do. Be careful though, not all of the lenses are designed to cover the area of a 35mm negative. There may be some compatibility issues with earlier AF Minoltas, they were prone to changing things from time to time...

Well thats why I started this thread.

The reason I'm interested is because the Zeiss lenses are MF only on Nikon, but I think they make them in AF for the Minolta/Sony mount.
