Like, so like, I'm like 48, eh? Like, is that like old...like really...like really really? Like, is 48 all that old, like freaking old, or what?

(There was a local call for artworks from artists above the age of 50 for a seniors exhibit...this freaked out my younger wife BIG TIME :D)

I'm 52 - I received my first "senior's discount" earlier this year, in a casino restaurant.

It made my wife's day :).

LOL.

Any of you just been following the Open Golf at Royal Birkdale. An ancient old bloke who goes by the name of Greg Norman was leading and finally came 3rd. He's a part timer these days and only plays a few exhibition matches and an occasional match on the Seniors tour. He's well past it at 53. So how come all those young whippersnappers who flatter to deceive were so far behind?

In ten years this will read; "80 is the cut-off point. I'm 77". :D

General rule #1: Old age is always ten years older than I am.

It's an old saw that age is just a state of mind, but I like the way Isaac Stern put it. "The secret of life is to die young -- but delay it as long as you can."

You can live to be a hundred if you give up all the things that make you want to live to be a hundred.

Ya, but what will it become when you reach 70?

Most of them seem to be the same age as me now!

Are you guys ever OLD! :)

PS - you know you're old if you tell people to get off your lawn.

I once read somewhere that you know that you are turning into your father (and therefore getting old) if you have in your shed/garage/workshop a piece of wood kept specifically for stirring paint.

I retired two months ago at the age of 65-plus and am enjoying the time I now have for my photography hobby. I also am writing a column/blog for The Toledo Blade called "A Senior Moment." It is dedicated to guys and gals in my age group and even younger. I'll soon be adding a couple of columns about the joy of shooting film, something that the seniors will understand.

Check it out at toledoblade.com. Click on Blade Blogs on the left side. I am one of the three writers. And, no, it is not my high school graduation picture; it was shot just before I left full-time employment. You can click then on my current column. At the bottom of that are links to earlier ones. There is also a place for you to comment, and comments may be published in columns to come.

You're only as old as the woman you feel . . .

I don't want to be "old", but I will take the discounts ... ;)

Well, 60 qualifies for 5% off on Tuesdays at my local supermarket. I'm 67 and don't feel so terribly old (maybe it's "over 80").

Recently saw a documentary movie about a group in Northampton, Mass. called "Young at Heart." It's a chorus of senior citizens, some quite senior, who perform rock and roll songs, among other things. Pretty amazing and a good argument for staying involved and interested in stuff. They have toured internationally!

When you starting thinking that 48 isn't really that old, do this exercise: the next time you find yourself admiring a young (over 18) lady from afar, remind yourself that you are old enough to be her father. DOOOH!

Or overhear a college-age woman refer to you as "that man", when you still think of yourself as "that guy".

Yeah, you're old. (I'm 45, so am I.)

I'm 57, and I marvel how OLD the kids behave.

OTOH, after my physical this morning,
the Doc prescribed some red wine with dinner.

I'll be going to the drug store after lunch... :D

Jim, I always thought that should be: You know you're old when you start a sentence with any of the following:
I remember when...
In my day...
When I was your age...
:p

I like Ken Dodd's( British comedian) definition. You look at a group photograph and realise that the overweight, going to seed, middle-aged balding guy on the left of the shot is YOUR SON!

You know you're getting old when you start to dribble on your toes...

Didn't we all used to say this about being "middle aged'???
