Here is what one sports photographer is packing to shoot at the Olympics: http://www.vincentlaforet.com/Gear/

To think I would have just taken my Nikon F4e and D2x ... I feel so impotent. :(

Regards, Art.

I saw his post earlier and cannot believe that he needs all that gear with him.

It just seems like over kill.

It's just Male Jewelry.

Mostly he'll use two bodies. But if something breaks, better to have more than you need than less.

I think I'd disagree with that. There is a ban during the Olympics on shipping mechanical and electronic products into Beijing so he has to carry multiple back-ups as he can't have a replacement shipped in. I can see 3 cameras on him: a wide angle, 70-200 f/2.8 zoom, and a long lens, plus his remote cameras. He has to have lenses for the cameras he's carrying (with back-ups) and lenses for the remotes and who knows what will be used on the remotes since no one has every photographed there before.

Not saying it's not a lot, but he's definitely rolling to be prepared.

Have you guys ever seen what is involved in shooting a single scene for a movie? That amount of gear is nothing.

Anyway, his method of working involves multiple remote cameras, so you need indeed many lenses, bodies, and top of the line Pocket Wizards...

thats ridiculous and mildly obscene.

Although... I imagine some people look at those images and become semi aroused by it.

I could think of a few that pop to the surface.

I can see how he could actually use and need all of that gear, but...how does one compose with remote cameras? I never understood that. Does he just take hundreds of pictures with them, hoping for a good one?
