If you are selling art type prints off your web site with some success could I have a look at your site? I need to overhaul my dysfunctional one and need some inspiration and idea for what is a good approach.

Thanks to those who can share what they have done,
Dennis

I sell well from my website, but only because the buyers have previously seen me at my art festivals and shows.

I have sold prints from my website, but it has little to do with the website, if anything. My site is clunky looking, and I lack inventory and updating.

The sales that have occured are a result of PR and marketing, and I think generally occur in spite of the website.

I was thinking of trying to sell a print on ebay, nothing special just a 7x5" print (maybe of this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/ajuk/2931445784/)) and starting it at a penny to see how it goes, worth trying?

IMHO being successful at ebay print sales is an uphill battle. Not impossible, but it requires building a consistent following. I have had sporadic success and some real poor showings as well, but I have not been consistent. Those that have some success with ebay sales have been working at it a while. One trouble is the category system sucks. Make sure you put silver gelatin or whatever in your title if that's what you are selling. Otherwise it gets lost in the ten thousand or so inkjet-giglee-finest-archival-inks morass, that are listed willy-nilly in every catagory, even under negatives. Every body with an inkjet is selling prints on ebay for about two bucks, you know, sell em cheap until they build a name, then go for the big bucks. There's a new crop literally every day. Some good, most astoundingly bad.

I was excited at first, and I tried with them briefly, but quit in total disgust over the hundreds of inkjets, giclees, and "archival pigment" things being sold on "your place to buy and sell all things hand made". Seems they are more than a little myopic over what "handmade" is, particularly when it comes to photography. Ignorance or greed, take your pick.
