I just thought that Ed's initial reply with exclamation points was significant.

1 exclamation point would have signified an approval and a congratulations to Sean.

2 exclamation points was perhaps enthusiasm with a touch of excitement mixed in.

3 exclamations points was veering dangerously towards inappropriate.

and 4 exclamation points had indeed dropped him into the abys of pervertuosity.
