Several (not mine - I have one) recently listed on eBay in other categories have no bids at all. One just needs to search on ALL of eBay for "361T" to find them......

Maybe people are just balking at starting bids over $350? Before the article in ebay the selling price of this item was in the $250 or so range, and one assumes that it will eventually stabalize back down to that price once all of us pyro types have had out bite. I say this because we are relatively few in number compared to huge number of densitomers of this type that are being dumped by the pre-press industry.

Actually I have been following the prices of these items on eBay and have seen them go for more money in the photography auctions than some in other auctions that never got a single bid. There is one offered now for $379 with no bids. That is lower than recent prices paid in the photography auctions. Before Bob's article, I paid more than $250 for mine as did one of his students and I think Bob himself paid more than $250. More in the range of $400-$500. I only posted this notice for informational purposes, not really to spark a discussion. But I do find the instrument extremely useful.

As with everything on e bay, you need to know what you want and get lucky to get a bargain. I bought a 369, which is basically a 361T but only has Visible and UV channels for $80.

But you are right, I foud this one in the pre press section and had no bids....

I have tended to follow prices of densitometers, including the 361T, more in the industrial auctions than in the photo auctons because this is more of a natual outlet for the pre-press industry, and my impression is that a lot more, perhaps three to four times as many, have been sold in industry than in photography.

But auctions have their own logic. A 361T described as in good condition cosmetically sold for $405, with 15 bids, on Novemvber 6, while one described as in excellent condition sold on November 9 for $258, with only five bids.
