I've been lurking for quite a while and thought it was time to jump in

Names Mark. I've been a teacher for 4 years after realizing a degree in creative writing was not going to put food on the table, at least not right away. Then there was anthropology Grad school which is a different story. Now teaching and I love it, fool that I am. SOme where in there My dad decided I needed to take pictures with my own camera not his. I have 35mm, MF(I love my Russian MF system) a 4x5 Busch Pressman and a 5x7 2d that I rebuilt over a number of years. And a few other cameras tucked away in there somewhere

I live in northern AZ. and have lived here for a great portion of my 33 years.

Welcome, this is a great bunch as I am sure you have found out. Was just in NE AZ, at Canyon de Chelly..now waiting to get back and go to all the other great places...look forward to your input.

I live in Ganado, 30 miles from Canyon De Chelly. That area was where I was going to take the 5x7 on it's first outing.

I met a local indian while there (I would need to look up his name). He told me that for $150 a day that he would guide me into the canyon to some ruins that no white man has ever seen. Are you planning on going into the canyon?

I got there too late in the day to go into the canyon...as it was I ran out of daylight and got back to Farmington, NM pretty late at night.

This seems pricey and there are no ruins in Canyon De Chelly that white men have never seen. The canyon hase been extensively surveyed and the surveys continue each summer. He was trying to sell you a bogus bill of goods. The next time you are in the canyon area and want to have a guide to go in-it is necessary unless you are Navajo-look up Flemin and Lettie(SP) Nave. They are great and I have known them since I was little. They have family land in the canyon and you can arrange to stay there over night. I would recommend this as it is truely a once in a life time experience.

I like going down the only public trail into the canyon. It is good exercise and this time of year it is quiet, which is what I look for.

I guess that it is true that God favors fools and children...since my childhood has long since vanished I think that it must be apparent which catagory I embrace. I would love to go into the canyon someday. The public trail looked like a whole lot of work when one carries a lot of gear.
