Since this is the beginning of the new year, we all have probably gone out or received new wall/desk calendars. Why does it seem that the AA wall/desk calendars are the only B&W ones available? Never seen one for any of the Weston's, Lange, Cunningham, etc.

Anyone have any ideas? Is the overall demand by the public for color, or is it because the publishers don't want to mess with B&W, is reproduction harder for B&W?

There seems to be more than enough images from the group here to produce one..maybe as part of the New publication?

I was given a B&W Bill Brandt calendar by Santa. So they are still available. Published by Heritage Graphics International

www.arempublishing.co.uk may still have some left.

My girlfriend and I both have a Keith Carter calender (she the horses and I have the dog calender). The horses calender came from photoeye.com (where they also have Michael Kenna and a few others). My dog calender actually came from one of those calender stores in a mall at a 50% off sale. Great calenders.

Some probably has to do with reproduction rights.

I know the CCP has the rights to a BUNCH of stuff, some of it Adams, but there are all sorts of strings and stuff. And well...Adams sells....

Thanks for the input..Now to go a little more in depth...in the states we are all aware of all the AA books, posters, etc. It's almost like any B&W work you display at the office or at home (landscape that is) and the first thing someone will ask "is that an Ansel Adams".

Do you think that AA would be as well known today if he had not found someone to promote his work so well? Taking nothing away from AA's work, I think he was truely a master photographer. But without the promotion work of others, would he not be just one of the other master's that is better known by those that are keenly aware of good work and not by the general public?
