Turkey, it doesn't rain in the Autumn here :D
What about Shropshire around Iron-bridge, short hop to Bridgnorth & the Severn Valley railway, great countryside, very interesting places to visit, quite central & easy to get to.
I really enjoyed the Penzance meet, and I may be back for a couple of weeks, depending on work commitments.

It is, in fact, a suprisingly varied and photogenic area.
There's at least one other APUGer residing in the county too, (mikeg, who ought to be shouting about his group's upcoming exhibition (http://www.virtual-shropshire.co.uk/shropshire_news/mip-summer.shtml)).

I'm quite partial to Ambleside - Relatively easy to get to, some cheap camping. On the downside, often wet, crawling with tourists.
One question though - Did you have any specific dates in mind ?

I agree Shropshire would be a good venue.

Thanks for kicking that one off Martin.
Keep me on "Dunno yet what I am doing" list. I am hoping to go to Singapore later this year:o and Japan :o:o, and I doubt my holiday budget will stretch very far this year. If I can make it to the Autumn meet, I will.

Mind you. I am reading Paul's post, if there is a cheap camping alternative, may be *big may be* I can make it:rolleyes:

Paul, we usually do it in the following order:-
Everyone chipping in with their suggestions for locations
All vote on the choice of locations
Suggestions then vote on possible dates – Bob came up with a cunning plan for this years Spring Meet to vote for all of the dates that you could make.
Having settled on a date we look for a suitable Hotel in the location – there are usually one or two APUGers in the area who volunteer to do the scouting round and come up with suggestions.
(We tend to use a hotel as “Base Camp” but its very much up to the individual – for instance Ian Grant camped with his cousin in Cornwall but came over to the Hotel in the evening to socialise and look at each others prints)
Finally everyone suggests their favourite photographic locations – but we are all free to do our own thing – however, there is often a main and one or more splinter groups each day.
The weekends are mainly a social get together and the opportunity to explore a new area for photographic possibilities.
The taking of actual photographs is very much a secondary affair (a large group of photographers collected together is not generally considered to be a recipe for great photographs)
Everyone is amazingly friendly and welcoming to new faces.
I was a new face at the Spring 08 meeting in Seahouses and was welcomed into the group immediately.

Let me tell you why I suggested Ironbridge. Looking at all the other place visited so far it's quite different, it's somewhere I know quite well but it isn't somewhere I photograph. I'd love to but would want to commit a serious amount of time, like 5 years :D
It's an extremely varied landscape, you have the flat plains to the East, the rolling hills to the West and the Gorge itself which is littered with remains of the Industrial Revolution. Ironbridge and Broseley are both Georgian style small towns with a lot of character and are quite unique.
In addition there are other interesting small towns within 15mins drive, Much Wenlock, Bridgnorth, oh & not forgetting the River Severn which was once navigable to Ironbridge and beyond for those that like Rocks & Water :D
I may well not be able to make it but it's somewhere worth going to, my wife loved it when I took her there last year. I studied at Ironbridge Institute (part of Birmingham University) in the late 90's so spent some time there. But it's up to you all to decide for yourselves.

Shropshire sounds good - but then so does Derbyshire... The Peak District is usually fab. Has plenty of locations and more than a few reasonable places to stay I'm told...

Martin - Taking the liberty of bumping up again and including a list of suggestions to date. So far, we have nominations for:
Shropshire - Ironbridge
Suffolk coast
Somewhere close to Cornwall
Ambleside
Derbyshire - Peak District
In reviewing earlier posts, the consensus would appear to be leaning towards the Ironbridge area, so I guess the next stage would be a formal vote and then decide on a date.
The title of this thread would seem to suggest an August weekend, maybe the bank holiday ?

No problem
The thread has been running for a couple of weeks and most of the suggestions seemed to be made fairly early on.
Is everyone happy to generate a new thread and run a vote? :)

No problem, you can have both barrels from a Westley Richards which was last used for shooting tiger by the Maharajah of Rajpur, I'll hand-fill the cartridges myself :D
