Hello Barry,

Received your print this morning. A really lovely print a lot of work done on this one. I think I may well frame it.

Thanks very much, Regards Daniel

Posted my print tonight.

And I received it a few days later.

I apologise for being a bit late replying but I have been away for a few days.

I was interested to see in your notes that you used Prescysol but rated the film (HP5) at EI 200. Did you do anything to compensate for the extra exposure as far as development is concerned or do you just live with slightly darker negatives?

I used to also rate HP5 at EI 200 when I developed with DD-X but since I started using Prescysol, I have been using it at it's rated speed of ISO 400.

EDIT: I forgot to say... I really liked the print! (must send mine out soon).

I've received a lovely print of stable door earlier this week from paul_c5x4. Cracking print and the first one I've received that's been mounted.

I should be in the darkroom this weekend and I hope to get my print away early next week.

Was beginning to wonder if it had got lost in the post. Now I'm waiting with baited breath to see what turns up here :)

P.S. Do we post scans of the prints anywhere ?

Well, I got a real surprise today. When I got in from work I found a note from the postman to look in our log shed for a package. I looked and there was the largest jiffy bag I've ever seen!

I quickly tore open the package and was presented with an incredibly professional plastic sleeve, black backing board and professionally mounted print with tissue paper across the print to protect it in the mount. Impressed? You bet. I then discovered an envelope and inside was a hand written note from Delphine.

I read the note before removing the tissue paper from the print and it made all the difference. Delphine's description of a freak snowy day in London, the atmosphere and the obvious pleasure she took in capturing it made the print wonderfully intelligible and inspiring.

I strip away the tissue paper to view an image of a snowy Golden Square. The composition is cleverly symmetrical and yet not so - just the sort of composition that the human brain loves to interpret. Delphine had gone to the trouble of bleaching back and toning the print in gold which cooled the print down sufficiently to convey the coldness of the day without becoming cartoony.

I consider this print to be much more than a simple exchange - it's a present and an insight into a day that happened six years ago, a day that obviously affected the photographer and which shines through in the stunningly presented print.

I feel quite ashamed at the simple presentation of my own print!

Thanks Delphine

Thank you Barry for your kind and elaborate words of thanks ; they are making my day in return.
I am thrilled that it proved such an enjoyable experience and that the note was read before you saw the print, as it was my intention.

Best wishes & Happy Thursday !

PS: Actually the photograph was not taken 6 years ago, but 6 months ago, in January. This is probably due to my wiggly handwriting ; my 9s do indeed look like anamorphic 3s or 5s:rolleyes:

I'm running a bit late but I should get mine out at the weekend.

... Which has just reminded me of an Eric Morecombe Joke: "It's nice out." "Yes, I think I'll take mine out".

And before I could post to say I have sent them.... they arrived!

Steve the paper is fibre and very nicely printed

That's a surprise to me for two reasons: (in my accompanying letter I suggested it was Ilford RC matt).

1. I have only ever bought 12" x 16" fibre paper (these are 10" x 8").

2. I have never managed to get fibre to dry that flat.

I have bought various packs of paper from e-bay so I suppose I could have received some in the wrong box. Can't explain point No. 2 though!
