Wow - incredible - so the crystal actually turns into a metal by the sheer proximity of the laticework of neighboring atoms with higher energy orbits - and then that gets amplified by the developer...
It's definitely more sexy than a pixel being turned on or off, and most of us find more enjoyable or we wouldn't be here :D
The pleasure is in craft not just technology, some how film feels more creative.

That's the same film I posted a link to, it's in more than one thread, and Marco & others have deliberately put it on more than one site to keep their bandwidths down.
But I'm talking about a 1940 film in English called "The Alchemist in Hollywood" I saved it to my hard disk, (just checked it), and it's well worth watching. Sorry I've no idea where I downloaded it from.
Go find it because it really is a good film & well put together.

The Alchemist in Hollywood is in 2 or 3 parts as well. It is well worth watching.
All of these films appear to date from the 40s.
