Short (12-exp.) 35mm test rolls??

So...it's been a while since I've ordered film from Freestyle, having gone over to the dark side for a while.

In the past, Freestyle used to sell 12/24/36 exp. rolls in common emulsions that they bulk-rolled themselves. This was pretty cheap, and a convenient way of getting short test rolls. But it looks like they don't to that anymore. Is there any other retailer out that that offers that kind of service, specifically for FP4+ and Delta 100?

Please don't recommend that I buy the bulk-loading supplies myself, I'm not really interested in going down that road.

Kodak still offers them. You can get them from B&H Photo http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?ci=330&N=4294540491+4294950918+4291384683 They are great for testing cameras. It is to bad Freestyle stopped I actually just bought some from them.

I don't know of any. I just got a bulk loader and will be getting film shortly so you could possibly get some b&w off of me.

12 exposure rolls are like joints, if you want them, then best to roll your own. ;)

You mentioned the term 'test rolls'. Not sure what you mean, but film development tests should be done under real-world circumstances, not with shorter film.

Greg, Do you want to use the short rolls for testing cameras/lenses or for testing your darkroom process. If it for the latter you probably should probably go ahead and use 36 exp. rolls as the quantity of emulation in the development tank can have a measurable impact in your process timing.

If you are just wanting to test a camera or lens, I think a lot of people just go to FreeStyle Photo and get a supply of inexpensive private label film.

For B&W, I have occasionally shot ten or twelve exposures, carried the camera into the darkroom, opened it up and cut the film, leaving a bit of leader sticking out of the cassette. Stick the cut-off piece in a tank and process. OK, it can be a little tedious doing all that in the dark -- just close your eyes! :D

At one time 12 exp cartridges in 35mm were fairly common in consumer emulsions, but I haven't noticed any recently, probably because there is less and less film hanging in stores at all.

I just finished off the second half of a roll of Plus-X a few weeks ago; the first half was used in 2007.

I am sure they will not last long at all! Kodak is the last. Fuji had some stuff but just dropped it.

This is for a development test, but it only needs to be self-consistent within the test. I would kill to find 12-exp. reels and tanks, but I'm really sure they don't exist.

True, and if I needed a lot of these, I would. But I need 3 or 4. So unless somebody out there wants to roll some for me, my search continues.

I like their new website... There's "Photography" (all silver halide based) and then simply "Digital Imaging".
