Just got a Minolta X700 in the mail from Craigslist and the film advance does not go beyond 30 degrees. In other words, you cannot load and advance the film. There are currently no batteries in the camera--but I don't think batteries would have anything to do with this...or am I wrong? The lady I bought it from is refunding my money...but I wanted to check with you Minolta experts quickly first. Is this just a jam and thus an unusable camera...or is it somehow linked to the camera needing batteries for the film advance lever to work? Thanks in advance for you help!

If no batteries are inside, the shutter will not trip. Probably the shutter is already cocked.

Thank you, that's a good point! I will get some batteries tonight and see if that solves the problem.

Andreas,

Thanks!!! That was it. When I put in new batteries, I was able to release the shutter and now everything works fine. Not sure if I would have thought of the shutter already being cocked without you!!

If all faults would be that easy to repair...
Glad to hear it works now.
