View Full Version : How many per month?
Hi all......
Was just curious about how many rolls and sheets do you people shoot in a month?
Concerns more about the costs you incur per month. I shoot only one or two (negs) 35mm roll per month though recently i haven't shot any :(. I am starting self developing soon so i may be shooting more :)
INR 20(dev)+100(scan)= Rs 120 ~~ US$ 2.6 !
1Hour process.
What about you people? Maybe we can get some kind of statistics here :)

In summer: around 10 rolls per month, in winter around 2.

About 50 rolls per year, so roughly 6 per month. Really it's more like 15 rolls in 2 weeks and then a roll per month for a few months.

Last year I shot about 210 rolls of 120, and maybe 50 sheets 4x5. Probably 80% color negative.
I do my own processing in a Jobo; costs me about $2.50-3.00 a roll for the chemistry.

Like a roller coaster, 10 or 12 a week for few weeks, and 1 per month for 2 or 3 months.
I am more active over the summer an less in the winter. I usually shoot and develop my film in the summer and print in the winter.

First, classification: hobbiest who wants to see if I can capture what I think I see of the world. Photography doesn't make me any money. Money lets me do photography.
I got restarted this summer (2009) with a goal/expectation of shooting 2 rolls of 135 per week. I did that the first week, and not since. I have a test roll of FP4 in a "new" camera that I think works correctly. It has been there for about a month, and I still have 6 frames left.
I have an ungodly backlog of stuff needing to be printed.
So somewhere between 1/2 and 3 rolls per month, combination of 135, 127 and 120.

On weekends I do most of my shooting. 1 two 2 rolls a day, sometimes more if I stumble upon something interesting. I have a small camera with me on weekdays (XA, Contax T, etc.) but only shoot 1 or 2 rolls per week.
On vacations I shoot a lot. Maybe 60 or 70 rolls over a few weeks (B&W and slides.)

Between 135 and 120 film, I shoot maybe 2-4 rolls total per month.

I average between 50-100 rolls (35mm and 120) a year, but that is largely due to travel. If I took the travel part out of it, probably one roll per month on average. I don't usually shoot for the sake of shooting, although that's a little different this year as I am trying the 'photo a day challenge', mostly for myself, and hopefully to get me thinking more about the subjects I want to shoot and learning the intricacies of the camera(s) that I shoot them with.

Since I started the "Photo A Day" challenge I notice that it has increased.

I shoot 150-200 rolls of film a year, a mix if 35mm and 120 film. Almost all black and white. My color stuff is mostly just family snapshot type stuff that I shoot digital for; my artistic/professional work is almost all BW and thats all film.
33 rolls last year. Fewer rolls per month when use more 135, more when i use more 120. If i'm exclusively shooting 135 36 shot rolls I do about 1 & 2/3rds a month - definitely more than one, but usually only part of the second one. Mostly black and white last year, this year way more color - I'm going to aim to shoot 1 roll of color per month, and 1 B&W (probably 120) just so the darkroom still gets used.
I find paper to be more costly than film. I was behind on my printing until about last month, and i went through 3 100 sheet boxes of 5x7 fb, maybe 50 sheets 8x10 rc, about 100 sheets 4x6 rc, and a bit of bigger stuff here and there.

Pretty low -- sort of depends on my 8x10 film supply. I have a heavy hand when self editing prior to slipping in a film holder, so a couple of images (2 to 4 sheets exposed) from a half day in the Redwoods (10am to 4pm) would be a productive day. Hopefully I'll be happy with what is on the negatives. But I will also have days under the redwoods that I'll expose all 6 or 7 of my film holders. A good month would be 4 or 5 trips into the redwoods, though I usually do not photograph much during the summer there. A normal month would be 1 to 3 trips.
Do I count one 8x10 sheet of film as one roll of 120 (same area)? I use more 120 in the Summer, especially with the family out and about. But in the end, I don't know exactly how much film I use in a year -- don't know if I want to know. I know I am low on film, so I have been active. As the druggie said when he was asked about his views on the Drug Problem, "What drug problem? My supply is adequate."
I need a bunch of 8x10 FP4+. And a bunch of something in 120 -- not too fussy, really. TMax 400, Tri-X, FP4, etc...time to check out Freestyle prices! I am down to one roll of 120 -- some Tech Pan I would rather save for some need to pump up the contrast. My 8x10 film supply is down to one, maybe two trips into the Redwoods (and an idea for a series of images ripening up). Time to see my connection...

since I roll my own from 12 to 36, normal being 20 x I find it easier to measure ft/month which works out to be approx 33
that means 1 roll will last 3-4 months
roll = 100 ft delta 400

i used to shoot about 20 or 24 sheets and 4-5 rolls of film in a week.
i think the last i shot was around the end of november, and it was 8 sheets of paper .. and maybe 15 sheets of film.
life has distracted me a bit, i don't expose nearly the amount i used to.

For me it varies wildly. Some months nothing at all, other months hundreds of images. Overall, I guess I average maybe 50-60 shots per month in all formats together. On the road, in a cool place like I was this past holiday, I wound up shooting 10 rolls of MF film, 3 rolls 35mm, and 80 digital grabs... in roughly one week. Which for me is really extreme.

Well, since I started the photo a day challenge I shoot maybe 2 or 3 - 30 exp rolls and 3 or 4 -10 exp rolls a week. I roll my own and have been using expired fomapan 100 I picked up for cheap on freestyle so that has kept my costs down, for now. I notice I've been going through a lot more paper though!

The pat two years I have been exposing about 200 to 300 sheets of 4x5, 100 sheets of 5x7, 25 sheets of 11x14 and 200 rolls of 120. All of this black and white film. I've been spending a lot of time in the darkroom lately!

I used to shoot about 4 or 5 a week, but now because of money troubles I've had to cut back to about half of that, i tend to save it up for when I'm going somewhere interesting and shoot it all in one go.

Not nearly as much as I'd like. I probably averaged 1 sheet of film/month over the past two years, and most of that was in the past three months.
