I am keen on photographing the sailing vessels any others ? Not too familiar with Geelong except I need to head over the bridge to get there.
Just plugged in the info into my iPhone and it looks simple to find guess an early morning start to saturday 6am ?

Scott, if you're going over the West Gate, it becomes Princes Freeway which runs all the way out to Geelong. It's a really easy run. Alternatively, you could drive down to Sorrento and get the ferry across and then you'd probably have dolphins keeping you company :) Of course, that would add an extra hour or so to your trip and the cost of taking a car over... but...dolphins!

Probably got to be a Subscriber to have gallery on APUG I think.

Saw your photo, Mike. Just to set the record straight, I wasn't eyeing off the Wista, I was smiling over at the beautiful boy serving coffee at the stand!
By the way, my first ever roll of black and white film is currently hanging in the shower recess. Thank you to those of you here who told me I could only be half as stupid as I look, ergo, I'd manage :)

True dinks, I second Molli. Just beware of rear-facing speed cameras on several overpasses e.g. they are not in front, but behind the bridge and they catch a huge number of drivers! The first of these ridiculous things is near Werribee Open Range Zoo.

Yep, Gary, you're right. The gallery is for subscribers only - a subscription is next on my shopping list once my bank account recovers from the Freestyle ransacking. I should have looked to see if Ralek was a subscriber before making the suggestion to search here.

As well as Gary's warning about speed cameras, try to avoid winding up at Tullamarine! I did the reverse a few years back. Heading to the airport, overshot the mark and wound up in Geelong. I like to take the loooooong way around!

That's very odd. The stand and its gaggle of toy boys, is in the opposite direction, so (...how exciting!), Molli is actually eyeing me off, I win, LOL!!!

I am smack in between Sorrento way & west gate bridge but going across the bridge would be quicker. I did the ferry once with my motorcycle from Queens cliff. I will plan on being down there with some nice early morning weather.

The ferry is better, you'll have the Roarin' Forties as a tailwind from Queenscliff to Geelong!!
Finding the way onto WestGate Bridge is the fun part. And it is slow to 60km/h now and is an absolute bottleneck most times (4 lanes chopped to 3).
You could also catch a very early morning train to Geelong and from Geelong Station it's an easy walk to the Waterfront and along the beach. Highlights: The Carousel, Western Beach (expansive views over Corio Bay), Shark Fins installation, Eastern Beach (the 'hip' place to be, with eateries galore and the uber-expensive variety on the opposite side of the road). Sailers Rest is a good dig for a cuppa or a beer. Nowhere to shelter in bad weather except La Parisienne restaurant. The beach is the place to be today and I imagine thousands would be there.

Ah, Gary, if you knew me better you wouldn't call it winning :)
(And the boy was on a break and had wandered over to the spot I just happened to be facing.)
Hi Ralek,
I use an 8x10 large format camera and I used it in December to take black and white photos at Alice Springs. A few of the photos are on my Flickr site. Link below. Back in 2004 I took a 4x5 LF camera to Ireland shooting Fuji Velvia and had a great time. I got a lot of strange looks from people who must have thought I was mad. Welcome to the forum and I hope you have a great time here in Australia.

Mmmm. I still think it's a sexy piece of buff machinery ... the WISTA, I mean!!!
I'm actually in red hot pursuit of an identical one at the mo'...

Excellent news Molli. It gives a great sense of satisfaction, doesn't it, when you pull the film off the reel and see that you actually have negatives. After a long time at it I still get the same thrill every time. (It doesn't take too much to thrill me). Now get stuck into the other 19 rolls so that we can do our next Freestyle order. I already have my wish list on the way.
Cheers, Peter.

The next order will depend on whether I can sell a kidney or not... Or perhaps a heart? :) My brain's unlikely to get me enough for even a single roll of 24exp!
Did I thank you for getting this film order for Andy and I? Your kindness is very much appreciated.

Yes, you thanked me more than enough already. But thanks for your appreciation anyway. Don't forget that a) I benefited from it too, and b) you contributed by initially collating the order.
I'm just happy to have found some friends who share my passion and don't have tickets on themselves. But seeing all those lovely instruments of pleasure in polished wood has inflamed my GAS again. Now I am taking notice of the 4x5 ads which I would have ignored in the past. Oh, the pain.

Molli, congratulations, do the negatives look reasonable?
GaryH, Mike sold his 4x5 to me so he could fund the 8x10. I only wanted to have a look at a Shen Hao before purchasing one So I contacted Mike, before you know it, I took it home with me.
W9CAE we (missus and I) will be heading down to Geelong early on Saturday morning. Our game plan is to leave home around 0600hrs, we should arrive in Geelong around 0730hrs. I intend to use my 4x5 this time :D
I've taken my motorcycles over the ferry a few times, yep it's quicker over the bridge, even if you're in Queenscliff!
Perhaps a side tour down to Drysdale or even Queenscliff if the sailing ships turn out to be not too flash, is on the cards.
Mick.

Mick I ment to mention to you last W/end we have meet before ? Now you mention a motorbike. Did you ride a MotoGuzzi way back ?

Thanks Mick - and thank you for the confidence building course. The only thing wrong with the negatives are where I've messed up the metering - development-wise: no scratches, no kinks and, as far as I can see via a dirty window for a light box, no dust (well, fingers crossed on that one - I'll probably discover all of that when I try a few prints.
Speaking of, if anyone wants to start a photo paper business catering to 35mm shooters put me down for 4x6, 6x9 and 8x12 packets. I'm not cropping anything - if I don't have every inch of my mistakes in large, glaring disarray in front of me, I'm not going to learn. :)
