What books would you recommend as essential reading for one looking to educate himself on the matters of photography and dark room techniques.
What are the canons?
I suppose AA:s triplet is on the list. What else?

In addition to naaldvoerder's
Vestal's "Craft of Photography" and "Enlarging"
Both are written in everyday English. Like Vestal says"write the same way you speak"
Eddie Ephrams "Creative Elements" and "Gradient Light"
Adam's Series are about the last books I'd recommend. BUT once you have experience they are excellent references. Really dry reading.
There are so many out there you can probably fill a room some writing styles and examples are much easier to digest & apply.
Vestal's books have images but the reproduction isn't all that great. The others mentioned are all larger formats with better sample images.

Agree with everything already posted. Would add Barnbaum's "Art of Photography" and Barry Thornton's book, I think it's called Edge of Darkness.
