Received a Yankee safelight as part of darkroom outfit. Have several filters for it but none are marked in any way. I know the OC filter is supposed to be amber, but is this with lamp on or off?
Have two that look amber with lamp on. Under ambient light one is brown, the other some shade of orange.
About to embark on first darkroom session in 14 years, would prefer not to muck it up with the wrong filter...

If in dark room conditions, one is pretty easy to see illuminate the room it is amber for black and white printing, and if the other one is so dark as to make you wonder if the light is even turned on it is a color printing filter.

I'd probably try the orange looking one first, but either way you should do a safelight test before you do any printing.

Thanks for the help guys, will give the orange-ish one a shot.
Yes, need to do a safelight test, but for now just looking to make some quick prints to get back into the swing of things. Want the simple magic of that print coming up in the tray.
Eventually will put to good use the plethora of info supplied on APUG, but for now quick and dirty is the plan of the day. Call it my "before" pile, will use for comparison once I get a little more experience under my belt.
Sloppy work I know, but this is supposed to be fun after all.
