Hi! I bought Durst 138 on e-bay and have a problem.Coiled spring with a wire which supposed to support the head doesn't work.So I need this drum with a spring and a wire.Any ideas where I can get it?
I also need antinewton glass 2 pcs(to fit NEGA carrier)
4x5 glassless neg.holder and a red filter
spare bulbs would be also handy.
Would highly appreciate any info.

Just a note of caution when replacing the coiled spring on the enlarger head - try and get a copy of the service manual that details how to do it. Any of those springs under tension can pose a hazard if not handled properly.

Welcome to APUG. Search old posts here and on the large format forum. I remember seeing a link to a Canadian company that had a constantly changing and long list of parts. I can't find a reference to it in my files though. I have not used them and can not say anything about their goods or services.
There has also been a long threat here about who uses a 138. You might send a personal message PM to some of those people asking as they may not read this thread. I have not had to repair anything yet on mine (knock on wood) so I haven't had to look.

The company is called Stonemills. Unfortunately they're out of AN glass for the nega carrier. However, Focal Point in Fla. should have no problem supplying glass for that carrier. Tightening the spring is a very involved and potentially dangerous move. You'll need a special wrench.

I have the same enlarger with the same problem at the coiled spring. There are several solutions to this.
- Set, in the beginning of a printing session, the enlarger head on an approximative hight, do it with both hands and a lot of muscle force. Then use the table for the fine tuning.
- Try to adjust the spring tension. This is very RISKY and even DANGEROUS! In attachment you will find an instruction guide to do this. All tough for the DURST L 184, it is somewhat similar to the work to be done on the 138. The service company's name is on it.
- Call a for experienced technician (see the manual), in the USA there is a company still doing this, in Europe all is gone…
I am not aware if there are still spare parts available, spare bulbs are impossible to find and no more made. If you find one it will be worth its wight in gold.

Thanks for sharing that! I wonder if Durst Pro sells the tool kit. I have a few spare 5" lamps for anyone who's interested.

Thanks a lot Philippe! Very useful info.I didn't know the nuts are asymmetrical.I thought if I change the whole drum with spring and wire it will eliminate the problem,however it might not.Don't think I can get a tool kit so will probably go with a lot of muscle force and keep looking for another enlarger for spare parts.

DURST-PRO-USA.COM, durst-pro-usa@msn.com, 1 800 675 1493 have the springs, the know how, the tools to loan and the manuals needed to replace the springs, the top of the enlarger = the spring housing is fastened to the crome column tube with two screws, remove the two screws and the spring housing can be sent in for repair, replacement etc.

This should happen more often, professional service company's taking part of this wonderful forum. A lot of the information here would be more efficient, correct and ready to use for its members.
Why not organizing this better, something like a specified information library where all the manuals, informative posts and useful links are systematically classified. A place where myths and facts are separated (I could use this too:rolleyes:)...
All we need is somebody with a rational mind, intelligence, knowledge, language skills and lots of time;)
