Has anyone used the following backpack to carry LF gear and, if so, what mods did you make to separate camera from lenses, filters, meter(s), etc.?
I have a Chamonix 045N-1, extension rail, bag bellows, six lenses on Technika style boards (all small-ish lenses), spot meter, 6x12cm RF holder, several 4" gel filters, etc.

You might consider buying cases and even the backerboard from Photobackpacker (an APUG sponsor). I carry either medium or large format kits in them in a Kelty 3100 backpack.

I use a Tamrac Expedition 7x for 4x5 equipment.
It is small enough to go on a plane and just large enough to hold the stuff.
It is also very comfortable to carry (I use two larger backpacks and one smaller and this is the most comfortable one).

I carry my Chamonix, and 6 lenses in a Modified Kelty 3100 with the Photobackpacker backer board and cases. It works very well.
You could get a custom backerboard (http://www.photobackpacker.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RPT&Product_Code=B99999&Category_Code=RPT03) and the appropriate camera and lens cases. The only issue with that pack may be that it doesn't open fully, so cases in the bottom may be difficult to get out.

Thanks for the advice so far, folks. I'll take a look at all your suggestions.
While we're discussing gear-carrying equipment...
What about lightweight folding carts for those times when you only expect flat terrain?
