Hands down, one of the best photographers to have chronicled the civil rights movement for Life Magazine has died. I had the distinct pleasure and honor to meet him once. Just thought I'd make a note here. RIP
It took a lot of courage to take the photographs he took, much like War photographers it was a very dangerous endeavor but our visual History is made by men and women like him.
I remember reading Life and Look and the other magazines my Grandparents subscribed to while laying on the giant rug in their old house with my sister in the 1950's. They had a huge impact on my impression of the World.

Thanks for the link, Steve. The NY Times Lens Blog also ran a story with a few pictures. There's a real elegance and understated quality to his pictures despite the very difficult and dark time and events he witnessed. Excellent photographer.
