What materials do folks use for septums and darkslides, and where do you get them? I'm looking at having to make some holders for my 12x15 camera, and I'd like to get a source for the materials.

A common material seems to be garolite, available from McMaster-Carr.

Good-ol' black mat board for yours truly. My DDS film holder for my 20 inch pinhole is made of black matboard, 1/4-inch plywood, black felt, and held together with Titebond and gaffer tape.

I agree, this is what I've read about and investigated in the past.

What thickness is best for each? I would assume the darkslides are 1/32" and the septum is 1/16", or should I double those dimensions?

I have used Garolite XX which can be purchased through McMaster Carr. I cut my own to size, but they may cut it to specific dimensions for a fee IIRC.

My 11x14 Chamonix holders have carbon fiber slides and septum...Evan Clarke
