And at the same time that is a reason why others stopped using the film.

Yes, I understand that the ADOX PAN 400 emulsion will be different than APX 400. However, as long as your product development started from the last (2003) incarnation of APX 400, I'm confident that times in Rodinal 1+50 will be long, if not exactly 30 minutes. "Long" is all I need to be a happy consumer of the new film!

And at the same time that is a reason why others stopped using the film.Clearly from a few earlier posts in this thread.

I wanted to let Mirko know that not everyone sees this as a disadvantage while at the same time pointing out the potential benefit to different "others" who might not have recognized it.

Of course. There are many facets to liking and disliking certain aspects of particular materials we use.

I'm glad it works for you.

What's even more interesting is the contrast curve the Rodinal gives with the 'new' Agfa APX 400. It shoulders off really early and stops developing density, as if the developer simply is unable to increase density and contrast beyond a certain point, no matter how long you develop it for.

See attached picture snipped from the APX data sheet. The one with the Rodinal curve sloping off is the 400, and the other that has both Rodinal 1+25 and 1+50 is the 100.

I've been following this with interest. I had good luck with APX100 but now prefer to use 400 speed films for shutter speed reasons.... But I like highly dilute Rodinal and develop my film to a somewhat high contrast index for contact printing. Was looking forward to another choice but if the new film has these old characteristics..... Guess I'll have to try a roll/sheet or two and see.

I will keep you updated about the project. At this point we expect 35mm and 120 films to be available in Oktober but we might have delays so take this as a current plan but not a final release date.
Sheetfilms will take about 3 months longer because construction at the factory is going on in the hall which will be the sheetfilm confectioning later.

Thanks for the update. I am looking forward to trying this film in 4x5 and 5x7.

I can't wait! Love new (old) films and I've really been looking for a new 120 baseline film, so I look forward to diving in.

Mirko indicated it wouldn't take too many boxes for ADOX to cut special sizes.

Dave, why not WP too? . . .

Hi Sal,

I hope you are well.

If I like it in the other sizes, I would surely be interested. Believe it or not, I never used the Agfa version, so I have no expectations regarding the Adox version, just interest.

Any update on when the real stuff will be out? Is it defiantly going to be available in 110? I'm excited.

The Pan 400 "first coating" will be out in about 2 weeks.
However the first production of Pan 400 "final version" is currently delayed.
We are facing unexpected scale up problems at this point.
I might have more news next week.

Best wishes,

Mirko

Whatever comes out in 110 is independant from our scale up probelms.
Those are a matter of chemistry during precipitation. 110 is solely a confectioning issue.

Best wishes,

Mirko

So, exactly what is the practical difference between the first coating and the way the film will eventually be made?

Can I have some :)

The first coating was our first run on the big machine.
We undershot our target by about 1/2 to 1 F-Stop so we started touching the emulsions again and this is the reason for the current delay.

The film is usable and not worse than 5 year old APX out there but base fogg will be lower and speed will be increased in the final product.

Kind regards,

Mirko

Is anyone in NA carrying the First Release material that you know of?

I did followup on the sources you gave me in Europe, but it is prohibitively expensive to ship small quantities for an individual. Just as you predicted.

Michael,

the film is sold below our production costs to regain at least some of the money tied up in the materials used to manufacture it.
Thus we canīt put it through a distribution chain.
You are welcome to order the film straight of Fotoimpex at our usual fixed shipping fee of 20 USD per parcel to the US.

Ofcourse this only makes sense once you take a few more rolls....

Thanky you,

Mirko

Mirko,

Where in the web store is it? I can't find the film there anywhere. Do you have a link?

Thanks,

- Thomas

By confectioning, you are talking about getting the film into the cassettes? Also, is there still going to a color 110 film?

I can't find it either, but Mirco stated in his german forum that sales of that film will start in the second half/end of September. I guess it will show up then.

Would anyone be interested in a group buy to make the shipping costs more palatable? Of course, redistribution shipping once it got to one of our houses may very well eat up the savings on shipping from Europe. Kind of a Catch-22 there.
