It's still on my calendar as the second half of my trip. From Friday, Sept. 30th through Tue., Oct. 4th, I'll be on the east coast of Lake Superior. On the 5th I'll start heading toward Calumet. If the gathering doesn't work out I'll just wander around the U.P. with my camera and head back home on Sunday the 9th or Monday the 10th.

I'm trying to figure if this will work for me or not. Calumet is over 11 hours away for me, and I need to be back home for a family commitment by mid-day Saturday.

Hello All,

So sorry to snooze on this. I got so wrapped up in Iceland and the recovery (loooong trip) and have neglected to get back to everyone on this.

Unfortunately when I was looking into rooms for us, it came to light that it as a very busy weekend for them up there and finding enough room is a problem. We would have to go some distance away to get enough space for everyone. I'm really not sure what to do about this and thought I'd put it out there to all of you.

I'd still be willing to do a meet-up, but with limited rooms and a busy Fall, we might have to change the location or dates.

Again, I am very sorry about this everyone. If you have any suggestions... have at it.

Bill

Bill, what about pictured rocks? Munising? I called around and the Holiday Inn has 6 rooms. The casino in Christmas has lots of rooms, may be a reason for that. :)The American Inn right outside Munising has 6 rooms available. Just a suggestion, not sure Pictured Rocks is where people would like to meet up.

I'm totally in on Pictured Rocks! I had thought of it as a back-up but was also worried people were more into the mines. There is a lot there including day hikes along the cliffs if weather is nice. The boat may still be running as well as a trip over to Grand Island.

Anyone else????

Thanks Esky

Pictured Rocks will be very cool. Also, Highway 13 has lots in the way of inland lakes. Wagner, Laughing Whitefish falls, Pictured Rocks, the list is long with things to see.

This is starting to sound interesting. Pictured Rocks area is much more within my driving radius for that week. (I did some calculations, and I have 24 hours of driving scheduled... hopefully I'll have time to unpack a camera.)

Of those interested in meeting up, where are you all looking to stay. I would like to stay in the same hotel. Right now there are two places that have 6 room each, Holiday Inn and American Inn. Holiday Inn is on the lake, American Inn is nearer Highway 13 about 10 minutes from the Holiday Inn. American Inn doesn't have a bar or place to eat right near by, Holiday Inn, I haven't stayed before, but it looks very nice.

I'm interested in coming as well. Just as info, it's AmericInn (not America Inn) for those searching online. I make #7 so far since the discussion was revived less than 24 hours ago, and there will probably be more to come. I'd also prefer to stay in the same hotel with others, but that may not be possible.

All of us staying in the same hotel/motel would be nice for logistics. The last few winter trips up there I stayed at the Superior Motel (about 7 years ago). Not the greatest place (rooms smelled like smoke) but their single rooms are (currently) $62 and they have more than 6 rooms available at the moment. I believe there's a restaurant across the street or somewhere close by. Holiday Inn has only double queen bed rooms at $132 (cheapest) but two people can split that and AmericInn is filling up but currently has double rooms at $94 for Thurs 10/6 and $104 for 10/7 & 8 for a total of $344.31 incl. tax. AAA or other discounts would help, too. That's all I know.....I better get back to work! :)

I'm staying at the Alger Falls Motel, 2 miles east on M-28. A Mom & Pop place that I always stay at in this area. The area will be more crowed because of leaf peepers. My motel is filled on Wed.? as two groups are in and apparently overlapping. I will be there Tues. afternoon if anybody else is in the area.
