Where: The Distillery District (People, Buildings...) meeting at Balzac's Coffee and Roastery

How to get there:
The Distillery District is located at Trinity & Mill Streets, the 72 Pape Bus at Yonge & Front will take you right past the main Entrance, Balzac's is located right along that main section.

I hope to see a lot of you there! Feel Free to Bring friends, this is an informal event, so no need to RSVP!

With things rolling, does anyone have any other site/location/event suggestions for the GTA and beyond? Might be a good idea to compile an alt/backup list.

Well, last year naeroscatu (Mihai) and I did Ward's Island one afternoon, and that was a great outing (ferry ride, quaint cottage community, skyline, docks, boats) but we never got to the old lighthouse. That's on my list to do again. And you can bring a bike, if you've got one.

Out my way, for airplane buffs, there's the Warplane Museum, and they're cool with tripods and such. The flowers will be blooming (if anyone shoots colour) at the RBG soon.

I'm sure there is lots to see up in the KW-Guelph-Milton area, even the Conservation areas, but I don't know what's there.

Thanks for organizing this. I will try to make it to the Toronto gathering. As for other sites in Toronto, we could also consider U of T's historical downtown campus and Black Creek Pioneer Village up at York University. Both are very good for historical stuff.

The Warplane museum is great! I have to take some rides this year too!

I will do my best to get to the April 30th event (I'm in a community theatre production in May, so it may conflict; won't know until I get that week's rehearsal schedule).

I've heard that the streetcar museum in Milton is good for photos as well, rust, weathering etc.

Really looking forward to the meet-up! And I agree with keeping things informal!

Yes, the electric railway museum is a lot of fun. We could certainly do that for part of it. Nearby is also Rockwood Conservation area which has a ruined mill, potholes and caves, small manmade lake and river.

Fergus/Elora before the summer crowds descend?

Not sure if the Ag Museum in Milton is open regularly.

Elora sadly is mostly ruins these days too... then the gorge and the quarry, lots of good choices.

I've been to the Distillery District few times and it was always crowded. I'm yet to come out of there with a keeper; perhaps I have to change the way I look at this subject, perhaps focus more on people rather than buildings. That will dictate what camera I will bring along. I'm split between a rangefinder such as Konica Auto S2/ Canonet QL17 GIII (less flexible) or my Pentax Spotmatic SP with 24/ 28/ 50mm Super Takumar lenses (more flexible). Very exciting. Look forward to meet you all there.

Know what you mean. It's usually a zoo and the Brickworks can be worse. Today would have been great with snow and no crowds! Kensington/Chinatown/Spadina are other options--still crowded but with some room to move on sidestreets. Maybe we should be thinking about alternatives?

I'm looking forward to it! Been there a few times but I always find some new angle to work. Last time, I worked the perimeter and found some interesting things that made nice prints.

Balzac's makes a great latte as well, so see everyone there!
