Actually, I saw one of these bands recently... and yep, they were pretty good :)
'The Handsome Beasts' are local heros from my part of the World are still going strong, albeit with a new line up.
The rather obese chap posing in his birthday suit with the pig ( ) was Garry Dalway, known universally as 'Flabby'. Alas he died, unsurprisingly perhaps, of heart failure about six years ago... Bit of a legend, he was. RIP.

Exactly the first thing I thought when I saw the OP's picture.

Wow, I remember that W.A.S.P. cover from when I was in high school. At the time it was so transgressive that I don't think many people really noticed how patently ridiculous it was---as far as I remember, people were seriously afraid that it was going to turn their children into manic codpiece-bandsawers. The Eighties were a strange era.

Some of the Rolling Stones albums were ugly, but I think they did it on purpose.

Oh yeah! So bad they're good. Zappa dug 'em. IIRC so did Cobain. I was trying to remember their name-I was thinking of the Flaggs and couldn't find them. My neighbor's 3-year-old makes up songs that sound like these and I want to see what she thinks of them. :)

I could only wonder at the maintenance requirements on this hairdo... That's not just a beehive, that's Utah in there!
I also notice that the vast majority of these come from the late 60s/1970s... a time period not known for its good fashion sense. In 30 years, will someone be able to do the same for this time period (assuming anyone is releasing album art anymore)? Also, most of these bands are not exactly stadium headliners (the aforementioned WASP album cover being the exception). Most of these poor schlubs couldn't afford decent photographers and stylists.
