I favour Melville Caves along with a coffee stop at TOGS in Castlemaine.
Urban is not my scene.

Kevin: Togs in Castlemaine have some very delicious snacks... :-)
Marc!
Having taken the family there 2 years ago, I can say it was great for the little'uns to run around for hours. I thought at the time there was not many photo opportunities. However this could have been due to having to chase the little'uns everywhere, and being there in the middle of the day 10 to 4. Could be great at sunrise and sunset however.
If Melville Caves are the destination the weekend before Easter then I will have to pass. It will be the weekend before school holidays and I'm off to Mildura for Easter and the first week of school holidays. On the other hand if we head out somewhere closer to town then I reckon I can make it.
Like other posts, I cannot think of an urban adventure location. Dohh!
You could visit The Melbourne Steam and Tractor Club.

Nice idea Shane.
Looks like Labour day weekend would be the best time to visit. Time to dust off the Mamiya 7II
/Frank...
Better bring your close-up kit/bellows extension charts.
Some really nice gear here, but in a truly shithouse location. It's located on a gravelled site under power lines.
So, wide shots may not be aesthetically pleasing!!
Wish we could get access to the Puffing Billy sheds...
Lachy, If you're romancing steam trains, ye old puffer K-160 berthed at Maldon station, and running on Sundays to distant Muckleford siding, would be the bomb Not a shithouse location out there: just bush and a lonely old railway track and siding. There is never a time when photographers are not somewhere around the tracks out at Muckleford as the big black loco belching grey-black smoke trundles out of the bush.
I am at Melville Caves on the Labour Day weekend with a bushwalking group; all other weekends are busy, with departure for ConFest at Moulamein on 24th — landscape photography workshops there.
