last weekend my partner and i threw a birthday party. we had it at this wonderful whiskey bar/restaurant in san francisco named Nihon.

i love introducing my friends to different cameras, so i usually bring one as an accessory to such an occasion.

this time i decided to dust off my polaroid spectra 1200. i had to go through a reseller on amazon to get film for it, but i managed to acquire four 10-packs.

i brought it out at the restaurant and it was an...

A Photographic Philosophy

Posted 04-25-2008 at 04:05 PM by Stephanie Brim
I've spent a lot of time lately reflecting on my rather different philosophy when it comes to photography. I haven't had enough time to shoot lately, what with the SO working overtime and the baby needing my attention, so I've been thinking more and more about why I shoot the way I do.

I can't really put most of my photography into one set genre. I don't try to classify it. I shoot what I see, when I see it, sometimes for many reasons and sometimes for no reason at all. I use...

More adventures in collodion

Posted 04-22-2008 at 08:45 AM by TheFlyingCamera

Steve does terrific work and maintains great communication with his customers - he calls/emails at each phase in the process, and asked me several questions about how I wanted the box made (I had an 11x14 box, and he made it so the 14" dimension was the horizontal, so it would be easier to insert and remove the plates in a darkbox or under a low ceiling). I can't recommend him enough. I'll post photos of the...

Artomatic is coming again!

Posted 04-13-2008 at 06:50 AM by TheFlyingCamera
Yesterday I went to this year's Artomatic site to pick my wall space. I was in the first round of site selection, so I got to pick a prime location in the show. I'll be right off the elevator banks on the 8th floor.

For those who have never heard of Artomatic, it is this (semi-) annual show here in Washington DC that is run by artists for artists. It moves around each time because the show is so big, and there is a dearth of exhibition space in DC. The show got its name from the...
