first of the new year

i had this bag of coffee, all roasted and ground and it was burning a hole on my counter.
every time i pulled a few shots of espresso, every time i made lunch, every time i did dishes
or made dinner ... it just stared me down. i could hear it whispering to me.
well, tonight in near darkness i loaded the mamiya up with plus x
and i walked around the melted snow.
grass was peeking through in the january thaw
it was muddy and foggy and the street lamp was yellowy.
sometimes i could hear the rain melting the snow
other times i could hear the stream of electricity in the wires.
i could barely read the ruby.
i got through the first roll - wide open, 1 second exposures.
the second roll found itself in the camera but i knocked on the door: "put on the light" i said.
giggling she flipped the switch.
the cf bulb was dark at first but soon enough it was bright so i could read the ruby.
the interested neighbors peeked out of their kitchen windows, some slowed down as they drove by
others jogged in the mist.
2 exposures each this time. each 1 second ...
i only missed a frame or two.
the film was rolled in my pocket.
we watched charlie and lola
we ate hummus and celery and cherry tomatoes and crackers.
charlie was magic ... i love that show.
i grabbed the 12c perk and filled it with water ...
8 .. 10 ... 12, i put the basket inside and unzipped the bag of coffee and began to scoop.
usually when i make coffee for myself i add a scoop for the pot so i added 1 for each roll.
the perk wound up and hissed and bubbled and perked.
steam came out and it smelled lovely.
i filled a big mixing bowl with cold tap water to make a water jacket
i poured all 12 cups into another bowl to cool down.
hours passed and eventually 1115 rolled up.
i went to the room, and grabbed a plastic faux tupperware tub
and poured the cooled down coffee into it.
i hunted for reels and a steel tank and shut the lights off.
film rolled i soaked it in water and mixed.
i opened the carbonate and poured.
it sank to the bottom and bubbled a little.
the vit c was next, the last of it.
into the tub two maybe 2, maybe 3 teaspoons
and it bubbled some more with foam this time.
the wooden spoon was ready and i mixed.
i decanted about 750cc into a beaker and added 35cc of ansco 130
the soaking film was poured off
blue dye drained.
i replaced the water with coffee, set the clock for 20mins and left the room.
eventually i went back down, the timer was off and i poured off the coffee, wondering if it worked.
the film rinsed and fixed and is hanging.
9 hours later ...
the film was cut into strips and stuck in their plastic sleeves.
i can't print them wet this early in the day
so i numberified them for the time being ...
they were taken all hand held
