silver magnets are
a cost effective, inexpensive
way to reclaim some of the silver from your spent fixer.
all you need is more than 50-52 parts per million of silver in your fixer
( if you do the clip test that is 2x your original clear time
when you dip a small piece of film in your fixer to see how active it is )
that's it !
when your fixer bath reaches 2x that clear time it is spent
and ready to de-silver.

i have been doing this since december 2010
sumatranol 130 is the only film developer i use.
i pretty much use the teaspoon recipe for caffenol-c
but i don't measure. i have a seasoned 3L container of sumatranol 130
( sumatra /caffenol c+ a small amount of ansco 130 ) at all times
i process film as well as prints with it a 3L tank lasts more than 3 months
and i have gotten 200+ films and prints through
