I finally got back into my colour darkroom today. Well, not really back in, as this is the first time I've done any colour work in my current darkroom. So, this is now my fourth colour darkroom. Today was my first time using Tetenal chemistry. I processed two rolls of Agfa RSXII 100. The first one was unmarked, and I had assumed that the subject was some night shots here in Melbourne from about six months ago. So imagine my delight when not only did the first roll look fine, but the subject is actually my now three-and-a-half year old son when he was only a few days old. The second one was marked, so I knew what to expect, my now almost two year old son when he was 11 days old. The Tetenal E6 kit was fine to use, my only complaint being the requirement to agitate every 15 seconds. And the Paterson Auto Colortherm is still going strong having now processed 228 rolls of film.

Today I processed two rolls of film, and it all worked fine. I just need to organise my space a little better, but I'm delighted with my new dedicated darkroom.

Well, it's not too far away at all now. I can see the light, make that dark, at the end of the tunnel. My revolving darkroom door goes in on Wednesday. That in itself means that I need to have everything large in the room beforehand, and that includes the table and the enlarger. I've had a larger sink installed and had the exhaust fan replaced and reconnected. I've put up a cover for the skylight and a baffle for the exhaust fan. I'm making a light-proof removeable cover for the downlight, which leaks light around its edges. Once the door is in I need to start cracking into my pile of undeveloped film. It's quite exciting after about eight months without a darkroom.

Well, I'm starting to get excited about my new darkroom as it's not too far away at all now. We've just built a new laundry so the old one becomes the new darkroom. I bought a revolving darkroom door about six months ago, so it will be nice to put it into the doorway rather than the hallway. First there are just a couple of jobs to do in the room. The main one is to put a bigger sink in the bench. The existing sink is shaped like a cone with its end cut off (whatever that's called), and is not very practical. I'm hoping to have a new sink within a day or so. Then the sink has to be fitted and the exhaust fan re-connected and the door installed into the doorway.

On Sunday I shot 14 rolls of film. Okay, it was a wedding. It's the most film I've shot in a long time. It was good fun, but fairly hard work. As I'm darkroomless at the moment, I'm getting the processing and printing done externally, and that bothers me. We did some test shots last week, and several photos had slivers of rebate showing next to the borders. If that happens this time, I'll be demanding reprints. It was an even mix of monochrome and colour, 159 shots of each, 8 rolls of MF, the rest in 35mm. I'm interested to see how my handheld MF shots of the bride and groom dancing work.
