Have you ever had that feeling that something was just right? When we decided to look at the home we are buying we had no intention of moving. We love our old house even though it is kinda small. I just drove by this new house and had to go look inside. It immediately felt like my home. I loved everything about it (except maybe the orange carpet)! It was built in 1921 and was so much like the home I always knew I wanted to live in. I saw the locked room in the basement and was told that it was where the owner stored his guns away from the children. I never thought about the "closet" again. After months I finally convinced my husband that we needed to buy that house which was still for sale. We put our home on the market and it sold in 3 days for more than we were asking. The current owners of our new home accepted our offer which was considerably less than they were asking. It really felt like it was meant to be. When Ed got back from the home inspectors visit and told me the closet was actually a darkroom but was pretty small. I was excited and knew that it wouldn't take a lot of work to get back up printing after the move. Well, We just went over to the new house and I finally got to see my new darkroom! I'm so excited! It is bigger than my darkroom now. It has a light proof door (home made), a very old but operational sink. A much lower enlarger table than what I have now so I can do larger prints. Tons of shelving. It is all painted flat black and appears to be very functional! I can not believe my luck! The only house that I looked at, I fell in love with without even knowing that there was a darkroom hiding in it! I will only be down long enough to get my new chems ordered and I will be able to print again! We get to move in Saturday evening. I think that this home was meant to be my home. It is so funny that just driving by a home for sale can change a family's life so drastically!

Finally going to rebuild the Agfa Ventura 66 V

I just love this old camera and have taken quite a few amazing shots with it. The focus ring has been stuck at 10 feet and the bellows are like swiss cheese since I got it though so it is time. I have used black fingernail polish to repair the holes a few times but a couple of the holes are not pin holes and can not be sealed properly anymore.

I found quite a bit of restoration info on the web and have even found directions and templates for a new bellows. Since I paid under $20 for the camera I thought I would make my own bellows. One site I found suggested using the black printing paper bags as an inner light proof layer with black fabric on the inside and whatever color fabric you would like on the outside. I think that is what I will do. If it dosn't work I am not out of anything except time as I have an impressive fabric stash because I quilt! I can always try something else out later.

I will have to go slow an careful as I do not want to hurt the camera. Its been knocking around a whole lot longer than I have and I don't want to break it. I just love vintage equipment. It is so much fun.

I am hoping to have this finished before fair in August so I can take some candid fair portraits with it. We stay at the fair grounds for the whole 9 days so I'll have plenty of opportunity!

Wish me luck in my first photo repair attempt!

Months ago I said that my darkroom was nearly finished. I really thought it would go in so much faster. I guess it was harder to make a room in a collapsing basement corner than I thought it was :D Well, It finally is nearly finished!! I had a deadline that I wanted the room done in time to get involved in the postcard exchange and my Husband (Ed) almost got it done by the end of April! The plumbing was in 2 days ago and the wireing is done now! Ed just has a few things to finish up to make it light tight and its done. It's not big, It's not pretty, but its nearly done! I will be able to move my stuff in there on my next days off!!! It has been very hard waiting. I have a lot of negatives developed and can't wait to print them! I just purchased a 75mm lens and a 105mm lens for the enlarger to go along with the 50mm I already had that should be here within a week. I know I'm going to need more paper. I once again need more film. It sure is easy to go through the 120 film fast! I'll post some pics of the room when it is all done! Yeah!!! I am looking forward to showing some of my prints soon! Thanks all for putting up with all my newbie questions and my rambleing. (I tend to do that!):)

Well, the darkroom is not a room yet but is getting there. I have my first roll of black and white that I can develop in my camera. I have all my supplies and equipment for the darkroom. I'm hoping that by the end of February I'll have my first print! If my room isn't done I will just set up a temporary darkroom in the basement. I have read everything I can get my hands on and the past posts from this group have been invaluable.

I'll let you all know how it goes! Thanks for all your support and help!

My thoughts on my new hobby

I have not been this excited about one of my hobbies for a long time (and I have a lot of hobbies). I find myself sitting for hours trying to find equipment, reading all of the posts here and searching every photography site I can find!

I have nearly gotten everything I need for my darkroom, except the room, but I can set it up anywhere that I can make light proof for the time being and the supplies wich i will have to order soon. I can't wait seeing that first print that I develop myself. So much more exciteing than looking at the lcd screen on the back of the digital!

I am one of those people who never took a photography class. I took art. I was into painting in high school. I always had some sort of camera with me everywhere I went though!

I plan on getting out and shooting some film tomorrow. I got the wrong kind of B&W film to do developing myself (it is for c41 processing) but I enjoy just getting out! I suppose I can still use the negatives I get from costco to do my own prints.

I hope to grow alot in my art over the next year or two. Thanks for letting me ramble!
