  1. Whole Plate Project Show

    by , 08-28-2010 at 07:14 PM
Well, we had the "closing" reception last night at Art Reactor Gallery for the Whole Plate Project. I say "closing" in quotes because the show is up on the wall for another two weeks almost, but since the last weekend we will have the show up is the Labor Day holiday, I had the closing this weekend instead. Attendance was lighter than that of the opening reception, but quality made up for quantity. We had some serious viewers come through, and I got to spend some quality time ...

  2. The challenges of new software...

by , 08-16-2010 at 08:00 PM (Ramblings from the APUG admin..)
Well, this has been one challenging APUG upgrade and still a lot of tweaking lies ahead. Of course life would be easier if we had a team of 5 working on this, but it's just myself and a freelance coder (when I can afford him). There should be a large round of bug fixes and feature requests going in this week as well as a point release of vbulletin software taking us from vbulletin 4.0.5 to 4.0.6 (this includes over 100 bug fixes in the forum software itself). One of my main goals is to re-instate ...

  3. Thank Heavens For Small Mercies....

    by , 07-02-2010 at 03:10 PM
So, this is my first blog post in a while and it begins with a warning as well as an introductory story. So here we go...

The warning is that I am an idiot, and I am occasionally a bit forgetful in ways of darkroom procedure. It comes with the ADHD. So, for those of you who are hyper anal about darkroom perfection, look away NOW!

The story is this: I recently finished high school (praise JESUS, even if I am a Jew), but with crunch time approaching, there was ...
  4. First 4x5 processing, Combiplan Daytank and other thoughts

    by , 05-14-2010 at 08:00 PM
Well, I have finally gotten around to processing my first 4x5 negatives. I had pourchased a Combiplan Daytank in February in anticipation of doing this. Just took longer to get around to it than I had expected.

The film used is Ilford Delta 100 4x5 sheets. Three of the sheets were rated at EI50 and one that I included was rated at box speed. However, I concluded that I wanted the negative rated at 100 to be less dense as I had exposed important shadows at zone II 1/2. I had intended ...
  5. Signs of life at Kodak...

    by , 04-26-2010 at 11:15 AM
For some time I have been keeping the pulse of various companies that are of interest here. I do this primarily for my own capitalist gain but also to try to divine the direction of the film-related industries.

Here is a quick stock bulletin: there are some encouraging signs of rapid recovery at Eastman Kodak (EK). I am not quite sure what's up but the company has apparently recaptured the attention of the private investor... see the attached stock data.

    Incidentally, ...
